Why Crystal Palace won’t be holding Conference League trophy parade after first-ever European triumph

Crystal Palace supporters hoping to celebrate the club's historic UEFA Conference League success with an open-top bus parade have now been dealt disappointing news following their European triumph.

After securing the first European trophy in the club's history, many fans expected scenes similar to the celebrations that followed Palace's FA Cup victory last year, but the club has confirmed no immediate parade will take place.

Why Crystal Palace fans will not see a trophy parade after winning Conference League

Crystal Palace defeated Rayo Vallecano 1-0 in the UEFA Conference League final on May 27th, thanks to a second-half goal from Jean-Philippe Mateta, securing the club's first-ever European triumph.

The success also marked Palace's second major honours in little over a year following their FA Cup win against Manchester City last May.

That FA Cup victory was celebrated with a large open-top bus parade near Selhurst Park attended by thousands of supporters.

However, the club has now confirmed there will be no equivalent parade following the Conference League victory.

A Palace spokesperson explained the decision was heavily influenced by player availability ahead of the upcoming World Cup.

“Unfortunately, because of World Cup commitments, some of the players are going straight to international camps,” the spokesperson said, via Your Local Guardian.

“The club is hoping to do something later in the summer instead.”

More than ten Palace players are expected to be involved in the 2026 World Cup, which begins next month, significantly reducing the possibility of organising an immediate full-squad celebration.

Despite the club's decision, Croydon Council had publicly expressed interest in helping organise a civic celebration.

In an open letter to chairman Steve Parish, executive mayor Jason Perry said the council would be “honoured” to support a parade and described the moment as an opportunity for Croydon to celebrate a historic achievement together.

FGG says: Palace fans will be disappointed by this news

For many Eagles supporters, this would have been one of the biggest celebrations in the club's history.

Winning a first European trophy is the type of moment fans dream about for generations, so the absence of an immediate parade will naturally feel disappointing.

At the same time, the timing is quite awkward. With so many players leaving almost immediately for international duty and World Cup preparations, organising a full-scale celebration becomes far more complicated than it might initially appear.

The encouraging part for supporters is that the club have not ruled out doing something later in the summer, but even if another event eventually happens, many fans will probably still feel they missed the chance to celebrate the moment together immediately after history was made.
