Why Everton will still play matches at Goodison Park this season despite Hill Dickinson stadium move

Everton’s move to their shiny new Hill Dickinson Stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock was a much-anticipated one before the season started.

Fans in some quarters, traditionalists if you will, would have preferred to stay at Goodison Park, because of its history and the atmosphere it generated.

The club had made its new patch home, though, going unbeaten at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in the Premier League up until the 3-0 defeat to Tottenham on 26 October.

Since Goodison Park was not in use, it was decided that the Everton Women’s team would move in, which is an upgrade from Walton Hall Park.

Now, it seems that good old Goodison’s days are not over because the likes of Real Madrid, PSV Eindhoven, RB Leipzig and AS Monaco will be visiting over the coming months.

Everton’s under-21 side took over Walton Hall Park from the women’s team, but with continental opponents on the way, they will be heading to Goodison, because it has the facilities to cater to a competition of this magnitude.

The U21s will be participating in the Premier League International Cup, involving Category One academy teams against their peers across Europe.

Since it is a Premier League enterprise, all games will be played on English soil, which gives Goodison a chance to host some of the biggest teams on the continent.

The competition will see the Evertonians play three fixtures in December on the hallowed Goodison turf, starting with Real Madrid, with an additional match in January.

For those Toffee traditionalists, they will get a few more chances to watch an Everton men’s side walk out at Goodison Park.

FGG Says

Evertonians are passionate about their club and their famous Goodison Park, which is why it is a huge positive that they get the chance to head through the turnstiles again.

The additional benefit is that they could spot their next diamond in the rough while enjoying watching football talent and potentially future stars from across Europe.
