The Hill Dickinson Stadium has long been confirmed as a host venue for Euro 2028, and last week, it was revealed that the stadium will play host to four group stage matches and one Round of 16 clash at the tournament.
One interesting sidenote from the match announcement last week was that there were reports in the UK media that the Hill Dickinson Stadium will have a capacity of 60,000 for Euro 2028, around 7,000 more than what it currently holds.
For this to happen, construction work would have to resume at Bramley-Moore Dock imminently, but that isn't going to happen. In fact, the reality is very different to what has been suggested by parts of the media.
Hill Dickinson Stadium capacity to be reduced for 2028
According to official UEFA documents, the capacity at the Hill Dickinson Stadium will, in fact, be reduced rather than increased for the tournament.
The documents list the capacity at 50,000, which stacks up with what usually happens at international tournaments, where more seating is set aside for journalists and UEFA branding.
Safe standing, which is in operation in the South Stand at the stadium, is also unlikely to be approved for the tournament, meaning the entire stadium will be sold as seated tickets only.
What makes the claims of potential expansion even more ridiculous is that Liverpool City Council would have to approve such work, and the bureaucracy of that process means there is zero chance of the stadium being built on in time for a tournament that is being played in two-and-a-half years' time.

FGG says: Let the stadium breathe
The Hill Dickinson Stadium was only completed over the summer of 2025, so the idea of an expansion at this point is lunacy. There is nothing wrong with the stadium, and Everton fans will need to prove they can fill it on a weekly basis before any expansion is considered.
