Harvey Barnes has been a brilliant player for Newcastle United since signing for the club from Leicester City in the summer of 2023.
The winger is the type of player every manager and fan dreams of having – he is a reliable source of goals and assists, works tirelessly and does not kick up a fuss about sometimes being on the bench.
For Eddie Howe, Barnes has been a revelation, so it is no surprise that Newcastle fans created a football chant for the player shortly after he arrived in the North-East.
For all the key information about the Harvey Barnes chant, including the lyrics and tune, we have got you covered below.
Harvey Barnes chant, lyrics and tune
The Harvey Barnes chant is sung to the tune of ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart' by Joy Division, an iconic song that was release all the way back in 1980. The lyrics are simply:
Barnes, Barnes will tear you apart again,
Barnes, Barnes will tear you apart again,
Barnes, Barnes will tear you apart again

There is not an awful lot to say about this chant, other than it did not take long for Newcastle fans to start singing Barnes' name at St James' Park and in away ends, as this chant was created during his first season at the club.
It is not the first time that this chant has been used for a Premier League winger, either. Manchester United fans used to sing the same chant for Ryan Giggs, and while Barnes will not end up amassing the medals that the Welshman did, their play styles are similar.
Like Giggs, Barnes is considered an ‘old school' winger in the sense that his primary objective is to beat his full-back before delivering the ball into the box. Alexander Isak was a huge beneficiary of this during his time at the club before his well-documented transfer to Liverpool.

FGG says: Simple but effective
Sometimes, football chants can be too wordy, but you certainly cannot say that about this one. While it is not going to win any awards for originality, it is a tune that works well in football stadiums, and one that Newcastle fans will hope they can sing for many years to come.
Whether that will be the case remains to be seen. With 25 goals and 10 assists from 95 appearances to his name as of January 19, Barnes has certainly been a hit at St James' Park, but Newcastle's constant battles to comply with the Premier League's and UEFA's financial regulations means that cashing in on the player – who is now 28 years of age – cannot be ruled out in the future.
