Best football chants in world football: Arsenal, Man City & more

Throughout the years, English football fans have generated some of the most memorable and humorous football chants ever.

While South American fans undoubtedly make more noise and perhaps produce more enduring anthems, English supporters excel in cleverness when celebrating their latest recruit or reinterpreting '80s dance hits! Below is a compilation of some of the finest and most amusing football chants we've seen recently.

Keep in mind that football chants are a matter of taste; some adore them while others do not. What's your opinion on these?

Arsenal fans' Kai Havertz chant

Since the beginning of the 2022/23 season, Arsenal fans have made an effort to make more noise both at the Emirates Stadium and away from home. While they have always had good support away, the Emirates have frequently been likened to a library, and a freshen-up of their songbook has done wonders.

That season, the Saliba song (to the tune of Tequila) went viral, and they also started belting out “North London Forever” before home matches. Last season, they aired a new gem, adding to a growing list of Arsenal football chants—this time about ex-Chelsea man Kai Havertz. The song is to the tune of Waka Waka by Shakira.

Arsenal Kai Havertz song lyrics

Tsamina mine, eh, eh,

Waka waka, eh, eh,

£60 million down the drain,

Kai Havertz scores again

Man City – I'll follow you everywhere

When Manchester City were on the charge towards a famous treble in 2023, the Blues faithful conjured up a catchy song that was heard every time they played in the run-in. City fans have made a habit of “stealing” songs from other clubs over the years, and while some Manchester United fans may claim to have created a similar song to this one a few years ago, City are certainly the first to make it go viral.

Manchester City fans Fleetwood Mac chant lyrics

To the tune of “Everywhere” by Fleetwood Mac, the song goes like this:

“Can you hear me calling, calling your name,

We're Man City and we're on the p*ss again,

Somethings happening, happening to me,

I've spent all my money on drugs and City,

Awooooooo, I wanna follow you everywhere

Newcastle – Dan Burn

Often, the greatest songs belong to players who might not be deemed the “best.” Take Man United's Anderson chant from the late 2000s set to the tune of Agadoo or Liverpool's chant for Maxi Rodriguez to the melody of Heartbeat. Newcastle's football chants feature a straightforward yet humorous song dedicated to local hero Dan Burn, who joined the club in 2022.

Set to the tune of “Pretty Green Eyes” by Ultrabeat, “He's From Blyth” demonstrates the fan's love for a local fan. While he joined the club in his 30s, Burn was part of the club's academy setup at a very young age, but never made it.

He was quoted as saying to his dad that “Once the takeover happened, I knew my chance was over.” Little did Dan Burn know at the time, but he'd be one of the first players to join when Eddie Howe took over.

Fast forward to 2025, and Burn was a goalscorer in a cup final for Newcastle as the club ended their 70-year wait for a major trophy. Burn was already a cult hero at the club by this point, but he reached legend status after his towering header against Liverpool.

Newcastle United's Dan Burn song lyrics

To the tune of “Pretty Green Eyes” by Ultrabeat, the lyrics are quite simply:

He's from Blyyyyyyyyyth,

You'll never ever beat Dan Burn,

He's from Blyyyyyyyyyth,

You'll never ever beat Dan Burn

England – Phil Foden's on Fire

The football song that has gained the most traction in the summer of 2024 was England's song for Phil Foden. Throughout Euro 2024, England fans were heard singing the new chant wherever they visited and, in many ways, it became the song of the tournament.

The lyrics to the song, which is sung to the tune of Dancing in the Dark by Bruce Springsteen, are as follows:

Can't start a fire,
Can't start a fire without a spark,
Phil Foden's on fire,
he'll be playing the Germans off the park

England – Marc Guehi

One of the standout players for England throughout Euro 2024 was Marc Guehi. The centre-back filled the boots of Harry Maguire, who missed the tournament through injury, and he more than earned his own England fan chant. To the tune of You to Me Are Everything by Real Thing, the song goes as follows:

You to me are everything,
You're taking England to Berlin,
Marc Guehi, Marc Guehi.
And when you play with Jonny Stones,
I'm sure that football's coming home,
Marc Guehi, Marc Guehi.

Arsenal – Riccardo Calafiori

Arsenal supporters, previously not known for creating a vibrant atmosphere with chants, have significantly improved in this area in recent years.

Now, they appear to create an iconic chant almost at will, and their new song for Riccardo Calafiori quickly became a fan favourite..

Sung to the tune of Dean Martin's 1953 smash hit ‘That's Amore', the official lyrics of the song are as follows:

When he plays at the back,

he will stop your attack,

Calafiori.

He chose red over blue,

plays for Mik and Edu,

Calafiori.

Manchester United – Ruben Amorim

The majority of Manchester United fans have just endured the worst season of their lives following the club, after the Red Devils finished 15th in the Premier League and went trophyless. To make matters worse, they lost an all-or-nothing Europa League final to Tottenham just days before the end of the season.

Despite their terrible season, the fans have taken a shine to manager Ruben Amorim, who was appointed halfway through the season. Although the former Sporting boss is yet to have a positive impact on performances or results, the United faithful believe he is the man to take the club back to the top of English and European football.

Soon after he joined, the Stretford End began singing a version of “It's a Heartache” by Bonnie Tyler in honour of their boss. The lyrics are as follows:

Ruben Amorim,

He'll bring the glory days again,

We'll back him from the Stretford End,

He'll turn the Reds around…

Liverpool – Luis Diaz

Over the years, Liverpool fans have created some brilliant songs for some of their best attacking players. The Mo Salah Egyptian King chant is one of the most famous, while the Sadio Mane Voulez Vouz chant also sticks in the memory.

Luis Diaz signed for the club back in 2022 but he had to wait until 2024 for a chant. To the tune of the Italian resistance song, ‘Bella Ciao', the lyrics are as follows:

His name is Luis, He's from Barrancas, And he plays for Liverpool

His name is Lucho, He came from Porto, He came to score, came to score Came to score, score, score

La, la, la, la-la! La, la, la, la-la! La, la , la, la! La, la, la, la, la!

Luis Diaz, He's from Barrancas, And he plays for Liverpool!

Manchester United – Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Fernandes has been one of the most consistent players since signing for Manchester United in January 2020. The Red Devils did not hesitate to compose a Man United song for the ‘Portuguese Magnifico' to praise his outstanding performances.

Most importantly, Bruno's song has always reigned supreme in the Stretford End, even when the club he serves diligently isn't performing well. The Portuguese midfielder has been decisive in the most important games, both as a scorer and in giving assists. The 30-year-old has already played more than 250 games since joining the Red Devils.

The lyrics to the popular Bruno Fernandes song are as follows:

Bruno, Bruno, Bruno,

He's from Sporting Like Cristiano Ronaldo,

He goes left,

He goes right,

He makes the defences look s***e,

He's our Portuguese Magnifico…

Chelsea – Blue is the colour

Over the years, Chelsea have been one of the most formidable Premier League teams. The club is also known to have some of the best fan songs, thanks to the massive following in England and abroad.

“Blue is the Colour” is a song that has always been a favourite among fans at Stamford Bridge and during away games. While some fan songs rise and fall in popularity, “Blue is the Colour” has consistently remained a classic over the years. It was originally composed by the Chelsea squad in 1972.

You would reckon that it is not only a popular Chelsea fan song but also one that was composed in the heydays when Chelsea ruled the turf. The song survived the sands of time through to when players like Didier Drodgba had favour with the god of football, scoring at the slightest chance to the thrill of enchanted Chelsea fans.

Even today, the song remains a favourite football chant among Chelsea fans. Below are the lyrics.

Blue is the colour, football is the game,

We're all together, and winning is our aim.

So cheer us on through the sun and rain

'cause Chelsea, Chelsea is our name!

Here at the Bridge whether rain or fine

We can shine all the time

Home or away, come and see us play

You're welcome any day!

Old viral football chants

Deep fry your pizzas – Scotland

This one is a long-lasting chant that the Scottish national team fans use whenever Scotland meets Italy. In fact, they don't even have to play against them, it's enough just to pass the Italians on the street and the chant will come up, like in the example below:

While the lyrics are far from spectacular and there's only one verse to sing, the chant stuck because it is clever, funny, and has a good rhythm since it is based the famous Cuban song Guantanamera.

Will Grigg's on Fire – Northern Ireland

During Northern Ireland's run at Euro 2016, their fans gained plenty of traction with fellow supporters at the tournament for their songbook. One chant, that effectively became the song of the summer, was their chant for striker Will Grigg.

The song was the first in football to use the tune of Freed From Desire by Gala, and it was a big hit. Sadly, plenty of fans have ripped the song off for other players in the years since, however, none will ever top the original. The lyrics were simply:

Will Grigg's on fire,

Your defence is terrified,

Will Grigg's on fire,

Your defence is terrified,

Na-na-na-na-na, na-na, na-na-na, na-na-na

Come on David Moyes

When David Moyes became manager of Manchester United, many of the club's supporters believed that their success on the pitch would just continue. As a result, they created a song for their new manager to the tune of ‘Cum on Feel the Noize' from Slade. The lyrics were as follows:

So, come on David Moyes

Play like Fergie's boys,

And we'll go wild, wild, wild
