Heidenheim are one of Germany’s success stories having played their first ever season in the Bundesliga in 2022-23, led by manager Frank Schmidt, who has been in charge of the club since 2007.
Voith-Arena is located in the city of Heidenheim an der Brenz in Germany’s southern state of Baden-Wurttemberg, but while it was opened in 1972, its capacity is a modest 15,000.
The ground boasts the stature as the highest stadium in Germany’s top three divisions, sitting 555 meters above sea level, making it roughly 200 meters higher than England’s highest football stadium.
Matchdays are often described as intense, with the home support showing their community pride inside Voith-Arena, gathering prior to kickoff to walk into the ground. Though the stadium is not particularly large, the tight bowl shape – when combined with roofed sections – allows Heidenheim to make enough noise to intimidate opposing teams.
