Spanish football is not known for its away day culture, partly down to some of the long travel distances and lack of notice for dates and kick off times. That said, there does seem to be an uptick in away attendances across in recent years and those who make the trip to El Sadar to support the away side are usually put in one of the corners of the Fondo Sur (south end).

Osasuna unveil expansion plans

Earlier this year, Osasuna unveiled plans to expand El Sadar by over 1,000 seats. In March, the Parliament of Navarre passed a piece of legislation that allows Osasuna to increase their capacity beyond its current limit.

Clash between ultras and police

The stadium unfortunately made the news for the wrong reasons when the police and several Osasuna ultras clashed after the defeat to Real Madrid in February 2026. Footage showed Police using batons in unsavoury scenes that led the club to open an internal investigation to establish the facts.

Manuel Turrillas composed Osasuna’s hymn, ‘Aupa Osasuna’ which has been the club’s official anthem since 1960.

Other chants sung by the Osasuna faithful include:

  • Osasuna hoy yo te vengo a ver
  • Ale ale Osasuna ale
  • Forza grande Campeon
  • Osasuna nunca se rinde

Like many clubs in Spain, Osasuna have produced some impressive Tifo displays over the years.

Osasuna honour Arrasate

Osasuna supporters produced a Tifo to thank Jagoba Arrasate ahead of his final game as the club’s head coach in May 2024.

Arrasate led Osasuna to promotion from the second tier in the 2018-19 season before going on to establish the club in the top flight. Under Arrasate’s watch, Osasuna reached the Copa del Rey final and secured European qualification with a seventh-placed finish in the 2022-23 season.

Tribuna Principal

The Tribuna Principal offers some of the best views in El Sadar, which is why it is the stand that houses the VIP section and press box. Osasuna offer a VIP suit, premium zones, business rooms and the Sala 1920. The club’s website states that the Sala 1920 is the ‘most exclusive room’ and is ‘one of the best areas’ in the ground to watch the action on the pitch.

Tribuna Preferencia

If you watch a side-on view but for a slightly lower price, then you may want to purchase a ticket in the Tribuna Preferencia, the East Stand of El Sadar.

Fondo Norte

El Sadar is renowned for being one of the toughest stadiums for away teams to visit, largely due to the loud and passionate atmosphere from the home faithful. A lot of that noise comes from the north end of El Sadar, where the ultras group, Indar Gorri, are located.

Fondo Sur

At the opposite end of the pitch, you can also get a behind-the-goal view from the Fondo Sur. This stand also houses the away supporters in the corner, generating a fun atmosphere between the two sets of fans.

Osasuna run an initiative called ‘Bares Rojilos’, which allows Navarrese bars to associate their brand with the club. A number of the establishments are located in the centre of Pamplona.

For those searching for food and drink in the stadium’s vicinity, you may want to try El Txoko del Sadar. The Basque restaurant is situated under El Sadar offers the chance to enjoy a meal or a quick drink before the game.

Kiosks around the ground also offer bocadillos, drinks and snacks.

El Sadar is situated about 2.5km from Pamplona city centre, making it about an half hour walk to the stadium.

Train

Pamplona railway station is about 4km from El Sadar, making it an hour-long journey on foot. Instead, you can get the number 16 bus from the station to reduce the length of your journey.

Bus

Bus routes 9, 16 and 19 all include stops at the stadium. You can get these buses from a number of city centre locations, and you should not have to wait any longer than 15-20 minutes for one to arrive.

Car

For those travelling by car, the stadium has designated car parks on Calle Sadar and Calle Iturrama. While there is some street parking available in surrounding residential areas, fans are advised to leave enough time to find a car parking space before the game.

Osasuna are yet to announce their ticket pricing structure for the 2026-27 season.

With El Sadar situated in Pamplona, there are plenty of things keep you occupied if you make the trip to the city.

Catedral de Pamplona

The Gothic church replaced the Romanesque cathedral in the 15th century. The cathedral features a 13th-century cloister and the Diocesan Museum.

Parque de la Taconera

If you want to take in the nature of Pamplona, then why not head to the Taconera Gardens, made up of a French-style orchard. Among the variety of trees are leafy magnolias, beeches, a ginkgo biloba and the Japanese pagoda. The gardens also include a small open-air zoo, where you can see ducks, swans, peacocks, deer and rabbits.

Plaza de Toros de Pamplona

Pamplona is known for the controversial running of the bulls as part of the San Fermin festival. The bull ring is the end point of the event, and it is one of the biggest bull rings in the world with a 19,529 capacity.

El Sadar has hosted some major names in the music industry, including Elton John for his ‘Made in England’ tour in July 1995. The following summer, American rock band Bon Jovi played at Osasuna’s home stadium.

There was a five-year wait for the next concert at El Sadar, which welcomed Spanish musician Alejandro Sanz for his El alma al aire tour in July 2001.

Osasuna moved into El Sadar in 1967 after leaving their former home at Campo de San Juan. The stadium opened with a three-team tournament involving rivals Real Zaragoza and Portuguese club Vitoria de Setubal.

Los Rojllos would go on to play their first league match against Sporting Gijon in September 1967, when they played out a 1-1 scoreline in the Segunda Division contest.

The stadium has undergone significant renovation work since it first opened the doors, including the creation of the Upper Preference Stand in 1989. The ground underwent further work in 2003, 16 years before the stadium underwent the biggest redevelopment project in its history. In an effort to bring the ground up to modern-day safety standards,  Osasuna green lit a project to improve all aspects of El Sadar, including the changing rooms, press room and VIP areas.

The work also saw extra tiers added to three stands, plus the addition of rail seating at the south end of the stadium.

Osasuna view Real Zaragoza as their fiercest rivals. This is a inter-regional rivalry, with Osasuna representing Navarre and Zaragoza hailing from the neighbouring Aragon region.

The last eight meetings between the two sides have taken place in the Segunda Division, including a 1-0 home win to Osasuna in the most recent encounter in February 2019.

El Sadar was the venue the last time Osasuna faced Zaragoza in a top-flight contest in February 2013. On that occasion, Kike Sola scored the decisive goal in a 1-0 victory for Los Rojillos.

It could be some time until the two rivals meet in their next La Liga fixture, with Zaragoza set to begin the 2026-27 season in the third tier after suffering relegation from the Segunda Division.

Los Rojillos also enjoy fiery affairs with Real Madrid and Athletic Club, although they are not seen as a major rivals.
