Malick Thiaw is the new kid on the block at Newcastle United after signing for the club from AC Milan in the summer of 2025.

Although it is still very much early days in his Newcastle career, the early signs have been positive and the fans have taken a shine to him.

Newcastle supporters have already created a chant for the player, taking full advantage of the fact that this surname is pronounced ‘Ciao'.

For all the key information on this new Newcastle chant, including the lyrics and the tune it is sung, check out our chant guide below.

Malick Thiaw chant, lyrics and tune

The Malick Thiaw chant is sung to the tune of an Italian folk song called ‘Bella Ciao'. The lyrics are as follows:

Oh na na na na,

Oh na na na na,

Thiaw Malick Thiaw Malick,

Thiaw! Thiaw! Thiaw!

Came from Milano,

To play with Sandro,

And he loves the f***ing Toon

Malick Thiaw chant background

The Malick Thiaw chant was first heard during Newcastle's first European away trip of the 2025/26 season in Brussels.

The Magpies faced Royale Union Saint-Gilloise at Lotto Park, and the chant could be heard loud and proud from the away end throughout the 90 minutes. Generally, when these things happen, the chant was created earlier in the day in a pub, but we have no confirmation of this.

The chant is clever in its usage of the player's surname, even if he isn't Italian himself. The song does still manage to incorporate Italy, though, as it references Sandro Tonali, the club's Italian midfielder.

FGG says: We can see this taking off

This is a football chant that is still very much in its early days of existence, but we can see it taking off at St James' Park and in Newcastle away ends going forward. The reasons being that a) it's a clever and original chant, and b) the player himself looks like a top defender.
