Mikel Merino was signed by Arsenal in the summer of 2024, and while he was initially brought in to bolster their midfield options, he has gone on to become a cult hero due to his impressive performances as an emergency striker for the Gunners.

His aerial ability is arguably as good as anyone else at the club, while his finishing on the floor has also been impressive.

For a player who has never let the club down, he is more than deserving of having his very own Arsenal chant.

What have the Arsenal faithful come up with for him? Let's find out.

Mikel Merino chant, lyrics and tune

It's difficult to describe the tune for the Mikel Merino chant; it's one of those that you have to hear to understand. Further down this article is a video of the Arsenal fans singing it, but for now, here are the lyrics.

Wooahh, ohhh, ohhh

Woah, ohhhh,

Mikel Merino!

Wooahh, ohhh, ohhh

Woah, ohhhh,

Mikel Merino!

Mikel Merino chant background

According to Arsenal fans who made the trip to Portugal in November 2024, the Mikel Merino chant was inspired by a song that was sung by Sporting Lisbon fans before their Champions League clash with the Gunners.

In response to that particular chant, Arsenal fans modified it to sing about Merino, despite the fact that the Spaniard didn't even start that match.

The chant then went viral on social media in February 2025 after Merino was seen dancing along to the chant after the Arsenal fans inside the King Power Stadium serenaded him following his two late goals against Leicester City.

FGG says: Something a bit different

In a world where it seems like some football fans just want their chants to go viral, this is a little bit of a throwback to a time when football chants were a lot simpler. The Portuguese-imported tune isn't something we've heard before in English football, and I like it.
