AFC Bournemouth supporters have been given their first visible glimpse of the Vitality Stadium expansion after fresh footage emerged showing construction activity at the ground.

Just days after the club secured approval for its ambitious redevelopment plans and prepared for a first-ever season of European football, work already appears to be underway.

Watch as Vitality Stadium expansion project finally gets underway

A video that has gained traction on social media appears to show the first stages of work taking place at the Vitality Stadium following the recent approval of Bournemouth's expansion plans.

The footage shows scaffolding erected around parts of the East Stand, while construction equipment and excavation work can be seen near the South Stand.

The redevelopment project was unanimously approved by Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council and will eventually increase the stadium's capacity from around 11,300 to more than 20,000.

Under the plans, the current South Stand will be demolished and rebuilt, while the North and East stands will be expanded. Corner sections will also be infilled, creating more than 9,000 additional seats alongside new hospitality facilities.

Speaking after approval was granted, president of business operations, Jim Frevola, described the moment as the culmination of more than three years of work.

The project also ties directly into Bournemouth's preparations for European football.

The Cherries have already received a UEFA licence to host Europa League matches at the Vitality, although that approval comes with conditions that the club must satisfy during the summer.

A range of upgrades are already underway, including improvements linked to UEFA Category Four stadium requirements. While Bournemouth already meet most regulations through their Premier League status, further work is required in areas including infrastructure, facilities and operational spaces.

Frevola confirmed that several items on UEFA's checklist have already been completed, while work continues on others ahead of next season.

The club are also aiming to add around 800 seats before the start of the new campaign as part of the first phase of development.

Planning approval is one thing, but seeing machinery on site is what really makes a project feel real.

For Bournemouth supporters, the latest footage is the first genuine sign that years of talk, drawings and meetings have finally moved into action.

What makes it even more exciting is the timing, as the stadium expansion and the club’s European preparations are happening side by side, giving the sense that Bournemouth aren’t just gearing up for a historic season but rather laying foundations for the next era of the club.

There’s still a long road ahead before the finished Vitality takes shape, but for fans who’ve long dreamed of a bigger, more modern home, this moment feels like the first meaningful step.
