Arsenal's Premier League title parade has officially been described as the ‘biggest' victory parade ever held in England, with around one million supporters estimated to have lined the streets of north London.
The celebrations marked the club's first men's league title since 2004 and also recognised the women's team's success in lifting the FIFA Women's Champions Cup, creating a historic occasion that attracted unprecedented crowds around the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal title parade breaks records in north London
Huge crowds gathered across a 9km route on Sunday as Arsenal's players paraded their trophies through north London.
The Metropolitan Police later confirmed the event was the largest parade ever staged in the country, with estimates suggesting around one million supporters attended throughout the day.
Despite the overwhelmingly positive atmosphere, emergency services were required to respond to a number of incidents.
The Met confirmed that 16 arrests had been made by 9pm, with offences including drunk and disorderly behaviour, drug-related offences, sexual assault and assaulting emergency workers, per the Guardian.
Police also responded to a stabbing on Hornsey Road during the evening, while additional stop-and-search powers were introduced overnight after reports of disorder and other incidents in the area.
Meanwhile, the London Fire Brigade revealed it had rescued approximately 75 people from height after supporters climbed onto rooftops and elevated structures to gain better views of the parade.
Firefighters also attended a small blaze at a hotel, believed to have been caused by a flare, while pyrotechnics reportedly triggered fire alarms at several other locations.
Despite those incidents, emergency services were quick to highlight that the vast majority of supporters celebrated responsibly throughout the day.
The scale of the turnout itself represented one of the biggest football celebrations ever seen in the UK.
FGG says: Arsenal title parade numbers need some context
Whenever crowds approach an extraordinary mark of one million, it is almost inevitable that there will be some incidents requiring police, fire and ambulance intervention.
That does not excuse the behaviour of those involved, but it is important to keep the figures in perspective.
Sixteen arrests and 75 rescues will understandably generate headlines, yet against a crowd estimated at around one million people, those numbers represent a tiny fraction of those attending.
The overwhelming image of the day remains the sea of Arsenal supporters celebrating a long-awaited title triumph.
While a handful of incidents may slightly tarnish the occasion, they should not overshadow what was, by all accounts, one of the largest and most remarkable football parades England has ever seen.
