Premier League champions Arsenal are set to face FA Cup winners Manchester City in the 2026/27 Community Shield.

The fixture, which will be held at the Principality Stadium rather than Wembley, has been confirmed by the FA to kick off at 3pm on Sunday, 16 August.

FA confirm Community Shield details

The 2026/27 Community Shield, which will be contested by Arsenal and Manchester City, will be played at the Principality Stadium.

The decision for the fixture to return to Cardiff for the first time in 20 years was announced after the FA confirmed that Wembley Stadium, the usual home of the match, is unavailable due to pre-planned concerts.

The FA have also confirmed that the Community Shield will take place on Sunday, 16 August, with kick off scheduled for 3pm, meaning the match will once again provide the traditional opening ahead of the Premier League season getting underway the following weekend.

Gavin Marshall, Chief Financial and Operating Officer at WRU said “The Community Shield is one of the most recognisable fixtures in the football calendar and we are delighted to be welcoming it back to Principality Stadium this summer.”

“Arsenal and Manchester City are two outstanding clubs with passionate fanbases, and we are excited to welcome their supporters to the Welsh capital. Our focus is on creating a memorable experience from the moment fans arrive in the city to the final whistle, and we cannot wait to see the stadium come to life once again in August.”

Mark Williams, Principality Stadium Manager, added that “It has been almost a decade since we have welcomed a major domestic football fixture of this scale to Principality Stadium, so we are incredibly excited to see top-level football return to Cardiff this summer.”

The Community Shield is a prestigious event and one that we are proud to be hosting. Preparations are already well underway across the stadium as we work towards delivering an outstanding occasion for supporters, players and everyone involved.”

FGG Says: Exciting change of scenery

Wembley Stadium has become too common in the English football calendar, with several matches now played at the home of English football throughout the season.

As a result, stadiums such as the Principality have been largely neglected, and the long-awaited return of action to the Cardiff stadium is certainly exciting news, especially for fans who will be visiting the venue for the first time.
