AS Roma's dream of moving to a new home has taken another important step forward after the Italian giants entered what could prove to be the most decisive stage of the Pietralata Stadium project so far.

With Euro 2032 on the horizon and pressure growing to modernise football infrastructure across Italy, Roma's proposed stadium is now moving from planning discussions towards the final administrative processes required before construction can begin.

Roma's new stadium plans move forward amid latest update

The Serie A outfit has officially submitted key documentation to UEFA Euro 2032 stadium commissioner Massimo Sessa, triggering the next major phase of the approval process.

The submission launches the Conference of Services procedure alongside the regional PAUR authorisation process, effectively beginning the final major administrative stage before construction can be approved.

The next phase will involve reviews and meetings with a wide range of institutions and public bodies, including transport authorities, infrastructure operators, government departments and public safety agencies.

Officials will assess multiple aspects of the project, including transport links, environmental impact, infrastructure requirements and public safety considerations.

The process is expected to last around 90 days, although a further extension may be granted if additional reviews or documentation become necessary.

Rome mayor Roberto Gualtieri has also expressed confidence in the project timeline, indicating that construction could begin within the next year as the city pushes ahead with infrastructure projects linked to Euro 2032.

The project has not progressed without opposition, however. Some Pietralata residents had raised concerns over environmental issues and tree removals linked to preparatory archaeological work.

But recent legal challenges against the project were rejected, allowing preliminary works to continue and handing Roma another positive development in the process.

FGG says: Momentum is building but key hurdles remain in Rome

Roma finally look to be moving beyond the concept stage and into a phase where real, measurable progress is starting to take shape.

Momentum is clearly building, but stadium projects of this size can still change direction quickly. Groundbreaking may feel closer than ever, yet most Roma supporters will understandably wait until machinery is actually on site before believing the finish line is truly in sight.

For now, though, this update does feel like a meaningful step forward, and one that suggests the move away from the Stadio Olimpico into their long‑awaited new home is edging closer to becoming a reality.
