Aston Villa have confirmed a major change to Villa Park as part of their ‘accelerated' North Stand redevelopment plans.
And it will mean supporters losing an entire stand for the whole of next season.
Aston Villa to close North Stand for whole of 2026/27 season
Aston Villa have announced that the entire North Stand at Villa Park will be closed throughout the entire duration of the 2026/27 campaign.
The club say the decision has been made in order to speed up the redevelopment and have the new stand fully ready for the start of the 2027/28 season.
Closing the stand for one full season means Villa Park’s capacity will drop to just over 37,000 next year.
That is a huge reduction for a club expecting to be playing in Europe again and could have a major impact on ticket availability and matchday revenue.
However, Villa believe shutting the stand entirely for one season is preferable to dragging the work out across two campaigns.
The accelerated timeline will allow the redeveloped North Stand to open sooner, with Villa Park’s capacity eventually increasing to more than 50,000.
The project will add over 5,500 seats, new concourses and hospitality areas, plus major upgrades behind the scenes.
The redevelopment also includes around 500 square metres of new first-team facilities, including upgraded changing rooms, medical areas and physiotherapy space to help ensure the club meets both Premier League and UEFA requirements.
Existing North Stand season ticket holders will be relocated elsewhere in the stadium for the season, with the club promising they will be able to move back once the new stand opens.

FGG says: A huge short-term sacrifice for Villa but one that could pay off massively
This is a bold decision from Aston Villa.
Playing an entire season with only three sides of Villa Park open will inevitably cost the club money and make tickets even harder to get, especially if Unai Emery’s side are once again involved in Europe.
But there is logic behind it.
Rather than leaving supporters with years of disruption, Villa are taking one big hit now in the hope of getting the redevelopment completed much sooner.
If everything goes to plan, Villa Park will emerge in 2027 with a 50,000-plus capacity and a modernised North Stand that should transform both the stadium and the matchday experience.
