‘Shocking’ – Fans criticise Aston Villa ticket prices

Fans on X.com (formerly Twitter) have criticised the Aston Villa ticket prices for single matches following the club’s announcement on 1 July.

Unai Emery’s side will play in the UEFA Champions League next season, following last season’s fourth-place finish in the Premier League.

Aston Villa ticket prices confirmed for single matches

Villa posted the prices for tickets that will be sold on a match-by-match basis. These are for the club’s 19 home Premier League matches in the 2024/25 season. Games are split between Category A and B fixtures, with four price zones.

The cheapest adult ticket for an individual game is £44.50, which is for a Category B match in price zone four. For Category A matches in the ‘1888 Seats’, the most expensive tickets are an eyewatering £92. This includes adults, the armed forces and under-14s.

In a statement, Villa said: “Season tickets for the forthcoming 150th-anniversary campaign are in hot demand.  Our General Admission Plus (GA+) and hospitality options are now the only way to fully guarantee your seat for this historic season, which includes Champions League football at Villa Park for the first time.

“Thank you once again for your fantastic support!

“The next best way to watch Villa on home soil at Villa Park is via match-by-match tickets, with official members given priority access ahead of the general sale as well as a host of other benefits 365 days of the year.”

Fans react to ticket prices

Over on X, fans have expressed their disappointment at the pricing from the Villa hierarchy.

One fan said: “Absolutely shocking. Football isn’t a working person’s sport no more. Something needs to be done about ticket pricing.” Other supporters eluded to the price of tickets for all groups, especially children. @LukeDeanAVFC said: “These prices are ridiculous. £78 for a cat A game under 14 zone 1. That’s a child.”

Another Villa fan expressed his confusion about the discrepancy between the price of a season ticket and the cost of buying individual tickets for each game. He said: “Not sure how Villa have worked out the individual ticket pricing. My season ticket in the Tier 2 bracket costs £818 but 19 games at £78 works out to £1,482. That’s quite extreme tbh!

‘Out of touch' – Champions League ticket prices revealed

On 4 September, Villa released the ticket prices for their four Champions League home games, against Bayern Munich, Bologna, Juventus, and Celtic. The most expensive tickets for adults are in the ‘1888' zone, which are priced at £97 for non-season ticket holders.

In fact, the cheapest seats for non-season ticket holders are in Zone 4, which will cost fans £85. This is £30 more expensive than the cheapest tickets for Premier League matches at Villa Park.

In summary, the range in cost for season ticket holders in all zones goes from £70-£82, while non-season ticket holders will have to pay between £85-£97, as outlined already.

Following the announcement of the Champions League ticket prices for matches at Villa Park, the Aston Villa Supporters' Trust released the following statement:

“As part of the Fan Advisory Board, the Trust met with the Club towards the end of last season to discuss ticket prices including the Champions League if we were to qualify and made clear pricing should be no higher than that of a Category A game if we did.

For the Club to announce Champions League ticket prices well above this season’s Category A is extremely disappointing, especially given the recent match day experience with delays of over 30 minutes getting into the ground, issues with access to seating and toilet facilities.

“When compared to other English clubs in the Champions League this year and indeed UEFA’s own away ticket price cap, today’s announcement is out of touch.

“Loyal Villa fans who’ve waited as long as 40 years to celebrate this momentous season are being punished and exploited at the expense of the Club’s compliance to PSR, ESR and publicly known revenue generation targets.

“The Trust fears the Club will alienate fans with these prices and urges the Club to rethink ahead of the first home match against Bayern Munich in October.

“On a separate note, we welcome the announcement about more reasonable pricing for League Cup and First Round FA Cup home games for adults and children.”
