Away fans’ guide to Lisbon: Key information for Arsenal fans

Arsenal's run to the 2026 Champions League final also included a trip to Lisbon, where Kai Havertz's stoppage-time winner against Sporting CP set up an eventual last-four meeting with Atletico Madrid.

That result was the latest chapter in what has become a happy hunting ground for the Gunners, who have never been beaten at the Estadio Jose Alvalade, across five visits stretching back to a 0-0 draw in the 1969-70 Fairs Cup.

The most emphatic of those came in November 2024, when Mikel Arteta's side ran out 5-1 winners in the Champions League league phase, ending a nine-match home winning streak for the hosts.

If you are an Arsenal fan considering a future trip to Lisbon to follow the Gunners, the guide below has all the information you need to ensure your visit is an enjoyable one.

How many Arsenal fans travel to Lisbon?

Allocations for away fans at the Estadio Jose Alvalade tend to sit in the 2,500-2,700 range, with Arsenal receiving 2,500 tickets for their November 2024 league-phase visit and a slightly increased 2,642 tickets for the Champions League quarter-final first leg in April 2026.

Both allocations were comfortably snapped up by travelling Gunners, and a similar figure can be expected for any future trip.

Where do Arsenal fans sit at the Estadio Jose Alvalade?

The away section at the Estadio Jose Alvalade is located in the northwest corner. For smaller allocations, only the lower tier is given to visiting supporters, but Arsenal fans have spanned both the upper and lower tiers on recent visits, including for the April 2026 Champions League quarter-final.

For that fixture, Arsenal fans took up blocks A9 and A11 in the lower tier and blocks B7, B9 and B11 in the upper tier. For larger allocations at Sporting, away fans are typically housed across both tiers in the northwest corner in this way.

As the stadium has a bowl design, Sporting Lisbon supporters surround the away section on both sides, so visiting fans can expect heavy segregation and perhaps some netting too.

How to get to the Estadio Jose Alvalade: Guide for Arsenal fans in Lisbon

The Estadio Jose Alvalade is located 7km away from Lisbon city centre, so walking isn't a realistic option. Instead, take full advantage of the city's metro system. The most logical option is to use the green line from the city centre and to depart at Campo Grande, which is situated next door to the stadium.

Alternatively, if you want to reduce all the hassle, you could order a taxi to the stadium. It is located right next to Portugal's E1 motorway, and the drive is pretty straightforward.
