The Camp Nou has undergone extensive redevelopment in recent years, having started at the end of the 2022/23 season and final completion for the renovations set for June 2026.
After moving to the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys for the 2023/24 and 2024/25 seasons, Barcelona were eventually able to move back into their home ground in November 2025, albeit with a reduced capacity.
However, further renovations have been planned for the summer of 2027, with plans for the installation of a roof at the Camp Nou.
As a result, Barcelona will look to play their home games during that period at the Estadi Johan Cruyff, where they played their first two home league fixtures of the 2025/26 season.
In preparation for their temporary relocation back to the Estadi Johan Cruyff, Barcelona are looking to increase the stadium's capacity from 6,000 seats to around 10,000, with the intention for this work to be completed in time for the 2027/28 season.
These plans were discussed during a meeting between club vice-president Josep Cubells, Espai Barca director Joan Centelles and Sant Joan Despi mayor Belen Garcia at the town hall earlier this week.
FGG Says: Barcelona's board thinking ahead
Barcelona's board have been criticised in recent years, with the club finding itself in far-from-ideal financial positions, but planning to develop their back-up ground in case of needing an alternative home during the Camp Nou's planned renovations is a show of smart thinking from the higher-ups.
