The redevelopment of Spotify Camp Nou has reached a key milestone, with construction of the stadium’s third tier now entering what has been described as its “decisive final phase.”

The project forms part of Barcelona’s ambitious Espai Barca redevelopment, a multi-billion-euro transformation designed to modernise the historic home of FC Barcelona and turn it into one of the most advanced stadiums in world football.

Camp Nou third tier rising fast as Newcastle match showcases progress

According to recent reports, the upper tier of the rebuilt stadium bowl is now largely structurally complete, with concrete work across most sections already finished.

Fans that attended the win over Newcastle United were able to clearly see how the new third level is taking shape around the stadium, highlighting the rapid progress of the redevelopment.

Only a limited portion of the upper structure, particularly above the South Stand, still requires completion before the tier’s main structural framework is finished.

Once the structure is fully complete, work will move onto waterproofing, seat installation and internal facilities, including the development of premium hospitality spaces that will form a major revenue source for the club.

The third tier is a crucial component of the project, which will ultimately expand the stadium’s capacity to more than 100,000 spectators, reinforcing its status as Europe’s largest football stadium.

Espai Barca project transforming iconic stadium

The redevelopment is part of the wider Espai Barca initiative, which represents an investment of around €1.5 billion (£1.3b) to modernise Barcelona’s sporting infrastructure.

Work began in June 2023 and has involved the demolition and reconstruction of the stadium’s highest tier, along with the addition of a new roof, improved hospitality areas, and modern fan facilities.

Barcelona returned to the partially reopened stadium in late 2025 with reduced capacity, while construction continues around the venue.

The club is reopening the stadium in stages, gradually increasing the number of spectators allowed inside as safety approvals and construction progress allow.

FGG Says

The decisive phase of the third tier marks one of the most important moments in the transformation of Spotify Camp Nou.

For Barcelona, the redevelopment is also central to the club’s financial future, as the new venue will significantly increase matchday revenue through expanded hospitality areas, VIP spaces and commercial facilities.

If construction continues on schedule, the fully redeveloped stadium will become one of the most technologically advanced and highest-capacity football venues in the world, helping Barcelona compete commercially with Europe’s biggest clubs.
