Football fans are often focused on their club or country's current situation that it is easy to forget the past, especially as the modern schedule is busier than ever.

However, a nostalgic trip down memory lane can almost offer a respite from the busy world of modern football, whether it be the history of a club or country.

Football museums are great places to discover more about the game's past, and reflect upon the events, moments and players that were once headline news. It also allows fans to revisit the emotions they associated with certain games and players from yesteryear.

National Football Museum (Manchester)

If you are in Manchester, then the National Football Museum is definitely worth a visit. The museum opened in the Urbis exhibition centre in Manchester in 2012 after being moved from Preston.

Visitors will start out at the Pitch Gallery, which includes the chance to take a photo with official replicas of the Premier League and Women's Super League trophies.

The Match Gallery is the largest display in the museum, offering the chance to see rare items like the The original ‘Laws of the Game’, the oldest surviving FA Cup trophy, the First Division trophy, the 1966 Jules Rimet Trophy replica, and the Lily Parr statue.

Visitors can then head to the Play Gallery for the chance to take part in interactive games before heading to the Score Gallery for special exhibitions.

Opening times: Daily from 10am to 5pm (last admission at 4pm)

The National Football Museum is taking part in the UK Government’s Great British Summer Savings Scheme, which will see VAT reduced from 20% to 5% on standard admission tickets from June 25 to September 1, 2026.

Scottish Football Museum (Glasgow)

The Scottish Football Museum is located at Hampden Park in Glasgow, the home of the Scottish national team. Visitors can learn about the history of Scottish football, see the original Scottish Cup and the orignal dressing room.

The museum, which has been rated five stars by VisitScotland, also has the Scottish Football Hall of Fame, which includes iconic names like Kenny Daglish and Denis Law.

Liverpool offer football fans the chance to take in the history the LFC museum as part of the Anfield stadium tour or as a standalone visit.

The museum remembers some of Liverpool's legendary players, biggest achievements and iconic moments. An admission ticket also secures access to nine new spaces, interactive displays and the chance to see all of the club's major pieces of silverware, including all six European trophies.

Chelsea offers fans the chance to see the club's museum as part of the Stamford Bridge stadium tour. While live guides lead the stadium tour, visitors can take a self-guided tour through the museum, starting with the first section that focus on the club's early history from its founding in 1905.

The museum also features a collection of shirts, medals, boots and trophy room, the latter of which includes five Premier League titles, two Champions League trophies and eight Women's Super League trophies.
