We all love away days – they arguably provide the best matchday experience and usually involve only the most passionate of fans. But some take it one step further, or in many cases, quite a few more steps further, and they are often referred to as ‘groundhoppers'.
There are many different forms of groundhopper, each with slightly different goals, but the core fundamental remains the same – visit as many football stadiums as possible.
If that is you, check out our top tips on saving money on your away days, but for now, here are five of the best groundhopping apps to make your mission just that little bit easier.
The five best groundhopping apps

5. TheFans: Social Football App
Perhaps a type of app you have never heard of before, ‘TheFans: Social Football App' does exactly what you might expect based on its name – the app helps connect football supporters from all over the globe and acts as a mini social media exclusively for fans of the sport.
While this doesn't directly influence your groundhopping experience, it could lead to you forming friendships on your adventures and gaining a potential companion for future endeavours.
Groundhopping is great, but it is even better with friends.
4. Tripadvisor
In truth, this spot could be swapped out for any app that allows you to browse, compare and then book a variety of hotels across the globe, but our suggestion is ‘Tripadvisor'.
It is the ultimate travel app, allowing users to plan their trip well in advance and ensure that they have access to a large database of establishments, reviews of said establishments as well as comparisons of the prices different websites are offering for your stay.
Seeing the opinions of previous guests can be particularly helpful when picking a hotel for your next groundhopping adventure.
3. The 92
An excellent app, albeit only one that will be of use to those based in the United Kingdom and specifically in England, ‘The 92′ allows groundhoppers to track and picture every single stadium they have visited from the current top 92 teams in England – ranging from the top of the Premier League all the way down to the bottom of League Two.
Rather usefully, the app automatically updates its database based on the respective promotions and relegations involving teams in the National League and League Two every season, meaning that you always have access to up-to-date information.
For fans wishing to complete the '92 club challenge', this app is a must-own.
2. Futbology
A very similar app to ‘The 92', ‘Futbology' follows a similar concept but can be used across the entire globe. The app provides users with fixtures for more than 1500 leagues and also helps fans find their way to over 90,000 stadiums worldwide.
In addition to its truly massive database, ‘Futbology' also keeps track of your entire groundhopping history as well as rewarding supporters with various badges once certain objectives and achievements within the app are met.
There is also a social element to the app, allowing you to add your friends and keep track of their groundhopping journey too.
1. FanHub
The main reason I use the FanHub app is:

Taking the groundhopping tracker app concept one step further is ‘FanHub‘. While this app can also be used by traditional supporters who simply attend their own club's matches, groundhoppers can take advantage of the platform all the same.
You can check in at a wide variety of stadiums, allowing you to track your journey as you visit your desired grounds. Users can also keep track of other interesting statistics such as total miles travelled and how many goals they have seen be scored live and earn rewards along the way.
Following your friends on the app could also be a fun way to turn your groundhopping adventure into a competition.
