Bristol Rovers chairman Hussain AlSaeed has confirmed that Woodlands Golf and Country Club is among the sites being considered for a potential new stadium.

AlSaeed has also revealed that redeveloping the Memorial Stadium is now considered “impossible” after studies identified several major issues.

Hussain AlSaeed confirms Woodlands Golf and Country Club is on new stadium shortlist

Speaking to ITV West Country, AlSaeed confirmed the Woodlands Golf and Country Club site in Almondsbury is on a shortlist of potential locations for a new Bristol Rovers stadium.

The site, located north of the M4 and east of the M5, is close to plans for a new 1,800-home development, which would also include a school, shops, sports facilities and an extra-care complex.

AlSaeed stressed that no final decision has been made, with the club assessing potential locations individually and prioritising sites based on factors including accessibility, traffic and location.

Rovers have previously confirmed they are speaking to landowners about potentially purchasing land for a new stadium.

The chairman also provided a clear update on the future of the Memorial Stadium, describing redevelopment as “impossible” following studies that produced several “red flags”.

The club has therefore shifted its focus towards finding a suitable site elsewhere, with AlSaeed saying Rovers want to remain in the area but cannot achieve everything they need at the current ground.

FGG says: Bristol Rovers' stadium search is beginning to take shape

The confirmation that Woodlands Golf and Country Club is on the shortlist provides another tangible development in what has so far been a lengthy search for a new home.

However, it is important to stress that the site is only one of several options and AlSaeed has made clear that the club is still working through its shortlist.

With redevelopment of the Memorial Stadium now effectively ruled out by the club, securing a suitable alternative location is becoming increasingly important for Rovers' long-term plans.
