Celtic fans in Dortmund: Full matchday guide to Signal Iduna Park

On Tuesday, 1 October, Celtic will take on Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park in the Champions League. The match is the Hoops' first away match in the Champions League this season and it's a big one considering the opposition and the stadium they will be visiting.

It is the first time since 1992 that the two teams have met meaning that it will likely be the first trip to Dortmund for the majority of Celtic fans making the trip to Germany. If you are one of the Celtic fans heading to Dortmund then the guide below has you covered for everything you need to know.

How many Celtic fans are going to Dortmund?

Celtic have been given a 3,800 ticket allocation for the match against Borussia Dortmund, their biggest in the Champions League league phase. The size of the allocation and the magnitude of the fixture meant it was the most in-demand Champions League match with Celtic fans and these tickets were snapped up very quickly.

Thousands of Celtic fans tried but failed to get tickets so it is anticipated that thousands of supporters will travel over to Germany without tickets to soak up the atmosphere. Borussia Dortmund have also sold all of their tickets so don't expect to see any Celtic fans in the home sections.

Where will Celtic fans sit at Signal Iduna Park?

The away end at Signal Iduna Park is in the Nord Tribune at one end of the stadium. The end is opposite the famous Yellow Wall, the largest single-tiered stand in Europe where Borussia Dortmund's most passionate fans stand.

A lot of big European teams tuck away fans in a corner but Dortmunda are more generous than that. The away end is just to the right of the goal and spans two tiers of the North Stand. Celtic fans will enter through entrances 8, 60, 61, 70, 71 and 75.

Where to eat & drink for Celtic fans in Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund away is one of the rare German away days where the highlight is the stadium and match rather than the day(s) before kick-off soaking up the atmosphere and exploring a new city. Compared to other German cities, such as Dusseldorf, Cologne and Munich, Dortmund isn't the biggest or most interesting city.

However, the good news is that there are still plenty of bars and pubs in the city centre that Celtic fans can enjoy before the match. Three options, including an Irish pub, include:

  • Pfefferkorn Steakhouse – Hafenpromenade 1-2, 44263 Dortmund, Germany
  • Miner's Irish Pub – Miner‘s Irish Pub, Neuer Graben 74, 44139 Dortmund, Germany
  • Ganse Markt – Schuhhof 8, 44137 Dortmund, Germany
