We are now entering the climax of the 2025/26 Championship season, and the race for promotion is set for a thrilling finale.
It has been an entertaining season in the second tier, with surprises most weeks. At the bottom of the table, Sheffield Wednesday have been as good as down since the opening day of the season, but just four points separate Oxford United in 23rd and Blackburn Rovers in 19th.
At the top of the table, Coventry City are leading the way after wrestling back control of the division from Middlesbrough. Ipswich are one place further back, but trail Boro by two points and Coventry by 11.

Unsurprisingly, Coventry City are at the top of the attendance ranking in the Championship. There is plenty of excitement in the air in Coventry, and supporters don't want to miss out on any of the action in what could be a historic season for the club.
At the very bottom are Wrexham, with an average attendance of 10,608. The reason for this is the ongoing development at one end of the Racecourse Ground and the stadium's generally low capacity, which can hold only 13,341 fans.
Week 39 2025/26 Championship attendances
Week 39 of the Championship saw Coventry take a giant step towards the Premier League. Their win away at Swansea, combined with the three teams below them drawing, has left them needing just 14 points from their final seven matches to guarantee promotion. At the other end of the table, West Brom made it two wins in a row to pull further away from the drop zone.
The highest attendance this gameweek came from St Mary's Stadium for the match between Southampton and Oxford United. In total, 30,428 fans turned up for what turned out to be another good day for the hosts, as they ran out as 2-0 winners.
Championship record attendance
Unsurprisingly, the highest ever attendance at a Championship match came at a playoff final at Wembley Stadium. Back in 2014, 87,348 fans turned up at the national stadium to watch Derby County take on QPR, with Bobby Zamora famously scoring a last-minute winner for the Hoops.
