The new Championship season is now 21 games old, and as we enter the middle part of the season, we are beginning to get an understanding of which teams are going to be competing for promotion and which teams are going to be floundering at the bottom.
There are surprises at both ends of the table. Sheffield United, last season's playoff finalists, are only just starting to recover from a desperately poor start, while Preston, a side tipped for the drop at the start of the season, are inside the top three.
Leading the way at the moment is Coventry City, who currently boast a five-point lead over Middlesbrough in second. The Sky Blues were threatening to run away with the division a few weeks ago, but a sticky spell at the beginning of December has seen their lead slashed.

Unsurprisingly, Coventry City are at the top of the attendance ranking in the Championship. There is plenty of excitement in the air in Coventry, and supporters don't want to miss out on any of the action in what could be a historic season for the club.
At the very bottom are Wrexham, with an average attendance of 10,608. The reason for this is the ongoing development at one end of the Racecourse Ground and the stadium's generally low capacity, which can hold only 13,341 fans.
Week 21 2025/26 Championship attendances
Week 21 of the Championship saw Coventry return to winning ways with a victory over Bristol City. Middlesbrough kept pace, though, picking up their fourth consecutive Premier League victory.
The highest attendance in the Championship this week came from the CBS Arena for the clash between Coventry City and Bristol City. In total, 29,505 fans turned out to watch the hosts run out as 1-0 winners as they continue their surge towards the Premier League.
Championship record attendance
Unsurprisingly, the highest ever attendance at a Championship match came at a playoff final at Wembley Stadium. Back in 2014, 87,348 fans turned up at the national stadium to watch Derby County take on QPR, with Bobby Zamora famously scoring a last-minute winner for the Hoops.
