Championship attendances 2025/26: Early season averages

The new Championship season is now 13 games old, and as we enter the middle part of the season, we are beginning to get an understanding of which teams are going to be competing for promotion and which teams are going to be floundering at the bottom.

There are surprises at both ends of the table. Sheffield United, last season's playoff finalists, are currently in the bottom three, while Stoke City, a side tipped for the drop at the start of the season, are just one point behind Middlesbrough in second.

Leading the way at the moment is Coventry City, but Frank Lampard's side suffered their first defeat of the season this weekend, which has given the rest of the league plenty of encouragement.

Leicester City are at the top of the attendance ranking in the Championship, despite the Foxes not being as dominant as they were last time they were in the second tier of English football. Still, 30,572 people on average turned out to watch Leicester at their home ground so far this season.

Second on the list when it comes to average attendance are Southampton, with 29,847 people on average visiting St Mary's Stadium in the team's first five home games.

At the very bottom are Wrexham, with an average attendance of 10,625. The reason for this is the ongoing development at one end of the Racecourse Ground and the stadium's generally low capacity, which can hold only 13,341 fans.

Week 13 2025/26 Championship attendances

Week 12 of the Championship kicked off with a thriller in North Wales between Wrexham and Coventry City. The hosts inflicted a first defeat of the season on the Sky Blues, courtesy of a hat-trick from Kieffer Moore.

The highest attendance in the Championship this week came from Bramall Lane for the match between Sheffield United and Derby County. In total, 28,473 fans turned out to watch Derby inflict more pain on the hosts, with the Rams running out as 3-1 winners.

Unsurprisingly, the highest attendance at a Championship match came at a playoff final at Wembley Stadium. Back in 2014, 87,348 fans turned up at the national stadium to watch Derby County take on QPR, with Bobby Zamora famously scoring a last-minute winner for the Hoops.
