Cheltenham stadium receives seating makeover in time for new League Two season

With the new League Two season just two weeks away, Cheltenham Town have revealed that they have modified the seating in certain sections at Whaddon Road, in a bid to improve the matchday experience for their supporters.

The project, which has taken place in the Main Stand at Whaddon Road, has been delivered by Link Stadium Seating, a company which specialises in ‘mirage seating'.

The renewal includes nine rows of general admission seating, alongside three rows of upholstered and padded seats for enhanced comfort. A further seven rows have been fitted with bespoke VIP and directors' seating.

Modernising Whaddon Road

The Mirage system was selected for its flexibility and suitability for sports arenas. Its design can be adapted for a variety of applications, from traditional stadium seating to premium hospitality and directors' areas.

For Cheltenham Town, this meant the same seating design could be used throughout the Main Stand, with upholstery, padding and club branding added where required.

The approach has created a cohesive visual identity across the stand while giving different sections their own distinct level of comfort and presentation. By using a single adaptable seating platform, Cheltenham Town FC have been able to combine durability, comfort and branding across the Main Stand while improving an area that previously looked run down and out of date.

The renewal represents another step in the right direction for Cheltenham Town in terms of their commitment to modernising Whaddon Road. There is an acceptance in the modern game that football clubs need to move with the times off the pitch if they are to enjoy success on it.

The last significant renovation at the ground came in 2005, when the club added a new stand for away fans.

FGG says: A positive sign for supporters

While fresh seating isn't exactly going to turn the needle in terms of their promotion hopes this season, it does at least indicate to Cheltenham supporters that the club cares about them and their matchday experience at Whaddon Road.
