Arsenal and their recent progress on the pitch has brought renewed optimism around the north London outfit in recent seasons.
But according to one former senior figure, the biggest challenge facing the Gunners may not actually be the Premier League title race or a battle for trophies.
What has former Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein said about the Emirates Stadium?
Former Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein believes the club’s biggest issue is now the size of the Emirates Stadium.
Speaking on the High Performance podcast, Dein said Arsenal are moving in a “very positive” direction overall, but warned that demand for tickets is now far outstripping supply.
“One of the biggest challenges they’ve got now is that the stadium’s too small,” Dein said. “They’ve allegedly got 100,000 people on the season ticket waitlist.”
He also reflected on the mindset during the stadium’s construction in the early 2000s, when the club moved from Highbury Stadium to the Emirates.
“When we were building it, we were worried about 60,000 people!” Dein added, highlighting how dramatically the club’s support base and demand have grown since the move.

FGG says: David Dein is right about Arsenal and the Emirates
Arsenal’s success under their current project has reignited demand that the Emirates cannot fully satisfy. It was always an issue, but one that has been merely amplified in recent times.
With a reported waiting list stretching into six figures, the stadium that once symbolised the club’s long-term ambition now risks limiting their true potential, particularly from an income perspective.
Expanding capacity is not easy in a dense part of London, but there are reportedly plans to do so, and Dein’s warning reflects a growing reality that Arsenal may now be bigger than the Emirates Stadium in its current guise.
