Doncaster Rovers have launched a new initiative at the Eco-Power Stadium aimed at improving accessibility and inclusivity for supporters, with fans praising the move as a thoughtful step forward.

The League One club has announced a programme designed to make matchdays more welcoming for supporters who may find the traditional football environment overwhelming, including those with autism, anxiety or other sensory needs.

Club introduces pre-match stadium visits for supporters

As part of the initiative, Doncaster are offering supporters the chance to visit the stadium in advance of matchdays so they can familiarise themselves with the surroundings before attending a fixture.

The visits are intended to help reduce anxiety and provide reassurance to fans who may benefit from seeing the venue in a quieter environment.

In a statement, the club said: “We are determined to create a welcoming and reassuring environment for all at the Eco-Power Stadium.”

The club added that the scheme is intended to give supporters as much preparation as possible before attending games, allowing them to better understand the stadium layout, seating arrangements and matchday atmosphere.

Fans praise inclusive approach

The announcement has been widely welcomed by supporters online, with many applauding the club for recognising that the standard matchday experience can be challenging for some fans.

While several clubs across the country have introduced sensory rooms or quiet spaces in recent years, Doncaster’s pre-visit approach has been described by supporters as a particularly thoughtful and proactive way of helping nervous attendees prepare for live football.

The initiative continues the club’s broader efforts to position the Eco-Power Stadium as a family-friendly and community-focused venue.

Opened in 2007, the Eco-Power Stadium has been Doncaster Rovers’ home for nearly two decades and holds just over 15,000 supporters. It replaced the club’s former Belle Vue ground and has become a multi-use hub for football, rugby league and community events in the region.

The stadium has regularly been recognised for its supporter experience, and this latest initiative further reinforces the club’s commitment to improving the matchday environment for every fan.

FGG Says

This is the kind of stadium initiative that can make a genuine difference. Modern football grounds are often judged by their size, technology or hospitality offerings, but accessibility and inclusivity are just as important.

Doncaster Rovers’ decision to help vulnerable supporters prepare for matchday shows that thoughtful planning can improve the fan experience without requiring major redevelopment. It may be a small gesture in the grand scheme of stadium operations, but it is exactly the sort of move that helps make football more welcoming for everyone.
