Supporters visiting Elland Road should be aware of strict matchday regulations, particularly around bags and prohibited items.

The home of Leeds United operates a stadium-wide bag policy designed to improve safety and speed up entry, with all supporters subject to searches before entering the ground.

FootballGroundGuide looks at everything fans need to know about the Hill Dickinson Stadium bag policy, security procedures and prohibited items.

What is the bag policy at Elland Road?

Elland Road operates a restricted bag policy, meaning only small bags no larger than A4 size (21 cm x 29 cm) are permitted inside the stadium.

All bags must be suitable for inspection, as security searches are carried out at the turnstiles before entry. Supporters may be asked to open their own bags to assist stewards during checks.

Larger items such as suitcases, rucksacks or oversized bags are not permitted under any circumstances, and fans are encouraged to avoid bringing bags where possible to help speed up entry.

Are there bag storage facilities at Elland Road?

There are no luggage storage or bag drop facilities available at Elland Road.

This means that any bag exceeding the permitted A4 size will be refused at the turnstiles, with no option to store it at the stadium.

Supporters travelling with larger items should make alternative arrangements before arriving.

Elland Road medical exemptions and accessibility

Exceptions are available for supporters who need to bring items for medical reasons.

Fans must apply in advance by contacting the club before matchday. If approved, supporters will receive confirmation via email, which must be shown to security on arrival.

Even with approval, all bags will still be subject to full security searches before entry.

Elland Road security checks and searches

Security procedures are in place for all supporters entering Elland Road.

Bag searches take place at the turnstiles, and additional checks may also be carried out where required.

For supporters aged 16 or under, searches are conducted under a different protocol and only in the presence of a parent, guardian, or a member of the club’s wellbeing team.

Failure to comply with search procedures may result in refusal of entry.

Elland Road flags and banners rules

Elland Road allows flags and banners, but with strict guidelines in place.

Small handheld flags and banners are generally permitted, provided they are non-offensive and meet safety requirements. Larger flags may require pre-approval from the club, and all flags must comply with fire safety regulations.

Flag poles are not permitted, and any items deemed inappropriate or unsafe may be confiscated by stewards.

What items are prohibited at Elland Road?

A wide range of items are not allowed inside the stadium, including alcohol, glass bottles, cans, large bags, and any form of weapon.

Pyrotechnics such as flares and smoke canisters are strictly banned, along with laser devices, tools, musical instruments, and large camera equipment. Baby buggies, prams, and large umbrellas are also not permitted.

The stadium is entirely smoke-free, meaning smoking and the use of e-cigarettes or vapes is not allowed anywhere on site.

Any item considered dangerous or likely to disrupt the matchday experience may be confiscated or lead to refusal of entry.

Can you re-enter Elland Road?

Elland Road operates a strict no re-entry policy.

Once you have entered the stadium through the turnstiles, you will not be allowed to leave and return. If you exit the ground for any reason, your ticket will no longer be valid for re-entry.
