On Thursday, 9 April, Porto will welcome Nottingham Forest to the Estadio do Dragao for the first leg of their UEFA Europa League quarter-final tie.

The match will mark the first time that Nottingham Forest have played in the quarter-final of a European competition in 30 years, and given their current position in the Premier League, it could be some time before they are here again.

For all Nottingham Forest fans travelling to Porto for the match, here is everything you need to know about the Estadio do Dragao away section and Porto away on the whole.

What is Porto like for away fans?

Porto is a brilliant European city for football fans. It's famous for its port (hence the name), so make sure you sample some of the local wine while you are in town, even if wine isn't normally your thing.

While fans are naturally going to gravitate towards the bars and restaurants that Porto has to offer (and there are plenty), there are other things you can do while you are in the city. The biggest tourist spot is Dom Luis 1 Bridge, which offers stunning views of the city and the Douro River. Speaking of the river, why not take an early afternoon cruise in the sun?

Away fans shouldn't face any trouble with the locals, provided they behave themselves. If you are respectful, you will get respect back.

Where to drink for Nottingham Forest fans in Porto?

Some of the best pubs for British football fans in Porto include:

  • Bonoparte downtown – P. de Guilherme Gomes Fernandes 40, 4050-150 Porto, Portugal
  • Base Porto – Quiosque Jardim, Passeio dos Clerigos, R. das Carmelitas 151, 4050-163 Porto, Portugal
  • St Oliver's – R. de Santo Ildefonso 233, 4000-470 Porto, Portugal

What will the Porto away section be like for Nottingham Forest fans?

Nottingham Forest fans will be located as far away from the pitch as possible at the Estadio do Dragao, which is so often the case for travelling supporters in European football. The away section is located in the north-east corner of the stadium in the upper tier.

For those looking at a stadium map, Forest supporters are being placed in gates 19 and 20 in this area of the stadium. Although Forest fans are far away from the pitch, the steepness of the Estadio do Dragao means they are not going to feel like they are totally detached from the action and the atmosphere.

Porto fans surround the away end on both sides, and the segregation is always pretty strong. Forest fans can also expect netting to stop missiles from being thrown to and from the away section.

How many Nottingham Forest fans are going to Porto

Nottingham Forest fans have received an allocation of 2,516 tickets for the match, and all of these tickets are expected to sell out, not least because they are priced at just £24.20.

As this could be Nottingham Forest's final European away match for the foreseeable future, there is a good chance that more Forest fans will travel over to Porto without tickets.

How Nottingham Forest fans can get to Estadio do Dragao

Getting to the Estadio do Dragao is easy enough. Some fans may choose to take the 45-minute walk from the city centre, while others will take advantage of the city's metro system. If you are going for the latter option, here are the metro services you should look at:

  • Line F ORANGE (Fanzeres ⇄ Senhora da Hora)
  • Line E VIOLET (Estadio do Dragao ⇄ Airport)
  • Line A BLUE (Estadio do Dragao ⇄ Senhor de Matosinhos)
  • Line B RED (Estadio do Dragao ⇄ Póvoa de Varzim)
