How Barcelona will protect Camp Nou during “high risk” Feyenoord Champions League match

Barcelona have introduced a series of enhanced security and ticketing measures ahead of Wednesday's Champions League meeting with Feyenoord at Spotify Camp Nou.

The fixture has been classified as high risk, prompting the club to activate its Security and Rival Fan Control Protocol for the September 9 encounter, which kicks off at 6.45pm CEST. 

Barcelona say the measures are designed to protect home and visiting supporters while preventing Feyenoord fans from gaining access to areas outside the designated away section.

The club used similar measures for high-risk fixtures against Eintracht Frankfurt and Newcastle United last season, with Barcelona saying the protocols helped prevent potentially dangerous situations and ensure those matches passed without major incidents.

Barcelona tighten ticket controls for Feyenoord clash

One of the main areas of focus will be the distribution and use of tickets.

All tickets for the match are nominal, while sales are restricted to Barcelona members. Tickets cannot be transferred, and once a ticket has been assigned to a named holder, the name cannot be changed.

Supporters purchasing tickets must also agree not to sell or transfer them to Feyenoord fans. Barcelona will analyse ticket sales daily to identify suspicious purchasing patterns, while any fraudulent activity discovered through the traceability of a ticket can be referred to the club's Disciplinary Committee.

There will also be no ticket sales at the Camp Nou box offices, while tour operators will face restrictions on ticket sales.

Barcelona are specifically warning Feyenoord supporters without tickets not to travel to the stadium, as there will be no opportunity to buy tickets at the ground. Only visiting supporters with tickets allocated through Feyenoord for the designated away section will be admitted.

The club has also prohibited Feyenoord colours and symbols in home areas, with visiting team clothing permitted only in the designated away section and exchange seats.

Extra security presence planned around Camp Nou

Barcelona will increase the number of security personnel at stadium entrances and inside the stands, with staff authorised to manage incidents and eject supporters where necessary.

Supporters may also be subjected to both nominal and visual checks. The club says these checks will help identify Feyenoord symbols or clothing and potentially detect cases where away supporters have obtained tickets illegally.

Feyenoord supporters with valid tickets will enter through Gate L, while everyone attending the match has been instructed to arrive well in advance and have their ticket and passport or identification document available.

Barcelona will also coordinate with Feyenoord, the Guardia Urbana and Mossos d'Esquadra to prevent rival supporters without tickets from gathering around the stadium and to discourage ticket resale.

The measures come as Barcelona prepare to open their 2026-27 Champions League campaign against Feyenoord, with the club's official schedule confirming the 6.45pm CEST kick-off at Spotify Camp Nou.

Barcelona's approach is aimed at controlling the issue before supporters even reach the stadium.

By making tickets strictly nominal, restricting transfers, monitoring sales and increasing checks at the turnstiles, the Spanish side are attempting to make it considerably harder for visiting supporters to enter home sections.
