Huddersfield Town owner reveals “massive next step” in Accu Stadium redevelopment plans

Huddersfield Town have taken the next major step in their long-term vision for the Accu Stadium after submitting plans for a significant hotel development.

The project forms the first phase of a wider regeneration strategy following the club's purchase of the entire 53-acre stadium site.

Huddersfield Town have officially submitted a planning application to build a 141-room Hilton Garden Inn hotel at the Accu Stadium.

The proposed development will be attached to the Terriers Together North Stand, replacing former Kirklees Active Leisure offices and facilities while creating a year-round destination alongside the stadium.

Plans include a 100-seat restaurant and bar, a glass atrium, gym facilities and the remodelling of existing premium hospitality areas, including 14 matchday boxes.

The club also intends to integrate its H Town venue into the development, creating flexible public spaces that can be used both on matchdays and throughout the week.

Should planning permission be granted, construction would require the closure of the Terriers Together North Stand for the entire 2027/28 season.

However, the remainder of the stadium, including turnstiles and concourses, would remain operational, with affected supporters set to be contacted once timelines are confirmed.

The hotel is the first major redevelopment project since Huddersfield Town acquired full ownership of the Accu Stadium and the surrounding 53-acre site in September 2025.

Owner and chairman Kevin Nagle described the proposal as the culmination of months of work and a key milestone in the club's long-term ambitions.

“This is the true start of our first stage of development and initial steps toward becoming a real year-round destination and venue,” Nagle said. “This is a massive next step.”

This is exactly the type of development many clubs are now pursuing to generate year-round income beyond football.

A hotel, hospitality facilities and flexible public spaces can all help strengthen the club's financial position while bringing more visitors into Huddersfield.

The temporary closure of the North Stand will inevitably be an inconvenience for some supporters, but if the long-term vision is realised, it could prove to be a worthwhile sacrifice for both the club and the wider town.
