Ipswich Town's preparations for the new Premier League season are continuing both on and off the pitch.

Fresh images from inside Portman Road have now revealed another change aimed at ensuring the stadium is ready for top-flight football in 2026/27.

Fresh images surface showing Portman Road away end changes

New images shared on social media from inside Portman Road appear to show Ipswich Town expanding the away safe-standing section ahead of the new Premier League season.

Photos show work taking place in the away end, with the safe-standing area being increased to accommodate the Premier League's mandatory away ticket allocation.

Under Premier League rules, clubs must make at least 3,000 tickets available to visiting supporters at every league fixture.

For stadiums with a capacity below 30,000, that equates to around 10% of the available capacity, ensuring away fans continue to play a key role in the league's matchday atmosphere.

The latest work forms part of a wider programme of improvements at Portman Road during the off-season.

Ipswich have already submitted plans to significantly expand the West Stand concourse, almost doubling its floor space while upgrading kiosks, improving supporter circulation and refurbishing the club's fan zone.

The proposals also include new boundary treatments, digital signage and the relocation of several operational facilities to modernise the stadium's infrastructure.

Increasing the away safe-standing area may not be the most eye-catching part of Portman Road's ongoing transformation, but it is another important step in ensuring the stadium meets Premier League requirements while enhancing the overall matchday experience for everyone.

Combined with the wider redevelopment plans around the West Stand and fan zone, Ipswich are continuing to make steady improvements throughout the ground rather than standing still after promotion.

For supporters, it's another encouraging sign that investment in Portman Road remains firmly on the agenda.
