Celta Vigo have secured their long-term future at Estadio Balaidos after agreeing a landmark concession deal that could keep them at the historic ground for up to 75 years.

The agreement, reached with Vigo City Council, marks a major moment for the La Liga side, effectively guaranteeing their presence at the stadium well into the next century.

Balaidos, which first opened in 1928, has been the club’s home for nearly a century, making the new deal as much about heritage as it is about long-term planning.

The move is seen as a crucial step in stabilising the club’s future while enabling further development of the stadium and surrounding infrastructure.

New concession offers long-term security and flexibility

According to Stadium DB, the deal includes an initial 50-year lease, with the option to extend it to a full 75 years, giving Celta control of the stadium until potentially 2101.

Under the agreement, the club will pay an annual fee of just over €802,837 (£695,682), with incremental increases built into the contract over time at the rate of 2% per year.

By 2076, the fee will be up to €2.2m (£1,9m), and by 2101 it would be more than €3.5m (£3m), though all of these depend on whether Celta play in European competitions, remain in the top flight or get relegated.

Importantly, the concession grants Celta full use of the venue, allowing them to expand commercial activities, host events and further develop their long-term strategic project.

Club president Marian Mourino described the deal as transformative, stating it would “make us stronger” and lay the foundations for sustained growth.

Historic stadium remains central to club identity

For Celta, the agreement is about more than just infrastructure, it is about cementing their identity within the city of Vigo.

The club has played almost exclusively at Balaidos since its opening, with generations of supporters passing through its stands over nearly 100 years.

Mayor Abel Caballero welcomed the agreement, calling it an “extraordinary project” that would contribute to the club’s economic and strategic stability.

The deal also opens the door for further stadium upgrades and potential expansion, as the club looks to modernise facilities while preserving its historic home.

FGG Says

This is a huge win for both Celta Vigo and the city. In an era where clubs are often chasing new stadiums, Celta are doubling down on tradition, but with a modern twist. A 75-year agreement gives them the security to invest, expand and evolve without losing their identity.
