La Liga giants Valencia have received a major boost after a landmark court ruling in the club's favour regarding their stadium plans.
Valencia have been involved in years of legal disputes regarding the construction of their intended new stadium, the Nou Mestalla.
The plans for the Nou Mestalla were first unveiled in November 2006, before work on the stadium started in August 2007, with the intention of completing the work in summer 2009 in time for the 2009-10 campaign.
However, construction on the Nou Mestalla was suspended in February 2009 due to the club's financial struggles, and despite several updated redesigns with the intention of getting building back underway, no work was done until construction recommenced in January 2025.
Another legal dispute arose after the construction restarted, but the club have been allowed to once again continue work on one of the longest-running stadium projects in Spain after a major court ruling in their favour.
Court ruling in Valencia's favour

A complaint had been filed by a shareholder's association, Libertad VCF, making the argument that the plot designated for the Nou Mestalla did not meet the needed requirements of a ‘building-ready site' under Spanish urban planning law.
However, the court dismissed such arguments, pointing out that a valid building license for the land had already been granted in 2007, when construction work on the Nou Mestalla initially started, with any modifications to the project in subsequent years not invalidating that legal status.
The court reasoned that the site is fully serviced and equipped with complete road infrastructure, meaning that no additional guarantees for urbanisation costs are needed.
As a result of the court ruling, Valencia have been allowed to continue work towards finishing the Nou Mestalla.
FGG says: Work still to be done
The court ruling is a positive step forward for Valencia in their building of the Nou Mestalla.
However, several other legal proceedings and the construction itself still need to be finalised and resolved before the stadium can finally be opened, with it already coming up to 20 years since the plans for the Nou Mestalla were first unveiled.
