Leyton Orient have confirmed the introduction of safe standing at Brisbane Road ahead of the 2026/27 season, with both home and away supporters set to benefit from the changes.
The move makes the O's the latest EFL club to embrace rail seating as demand for standing areas continues to grow across English football.
Leyton Orient introduce safe standing at Brisbane Road
Mark Devlin, CEO of the League One outfit, has confirmed that safe standing has now been installed in both the South Stand for home supporters and the East Stand for away fans.
Speaking in an update, Devlin said the decision followed several seasons of discussions with supporters, with fan feedback playing a key role in the project moving forward.
The aim is to create a louder and more intimidating atmosphere at Brisbane Road, with Devlin describing his ambition of turning the ground into a “cauldron” that makes life difficult for visiting teams while helping to lift the players during matches.
Importantly for supporters, the installation of rail seating will not increase the stadium's overall capacity, with that figure remaining restricted by wider stadium infrastructure rather than seating configuration.
Season ticket holders in the affected areas will also remain in their existing locations, with the new rail seating simply giving fans the option to stand safely throughout games.
Away supporters will also have access to safe standing after the club installed rail seating in the East Stand, with regulations requiring clubs offering standing areas to home fans to provide the same opportunity for visiting supporters.
FGG says: Another sign of safe standing becoming the norm
Safe standing is quickly becoming a standard feature across the EFL, with more clubs recognising the demand from supporters to watch matches on their feet in a safer environment.
It's an interesting investment from Leyton Orient at a time when the club is also exploring options for a new stadium, showing there is still a desire to improve the current matchday experience while longer-term plans continue behind the scenes.
