Leicester City's relegation sparked angry scenes outside the stadium, but while some players avoided the wrath of the fanbase, one member of the squad stopped to face them.
Hamza Choudhury speaks with angry Leicester City fans after being relegated
Foxes midfielder Hamza Choudhury was filmed speaking to furious supporters outside King Power Stadium after the club’s relegation to League One was confirmed.
Their 2-2 draw with Hull City on Tuesday night sealed back-to-back relegations for the Foxes, completing a remarkable collapse just ten years after they won the Premier League title.
Following the final whistle, groups of supporters stayed behind outside the stadium to confront players and senior figures at the club.
In the video, Choudhury can be seen standing and listening as supporters vented their anger.
One fan told him: “You’ve got Harry Winks, who’s on 90k a week, walking and had the cheek to call us c***s last week…”
That was a reference to the backlash aimed at Harry Winks after reports he had sworn at supporters following defeat to Portsmouth.
Choudhury was not the only figure to speak to the fans, with chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha also stopping to face the anger.
When asked who was to blame, he replied: “You can blame me if you want to. It’s not right. I try everything.”
FGG says: Leicester fans have every right to be furious
Leicester supporters are absolutely entitled to be angry.
To go from Premier League champions to League One in the space of a decade is almost unthinkable, but the decline has been years in the making.
The fans have watched poor decisions, expensive mistakes and a squad that has too often looked completely detached from the situation.
At least Choudhury stopped and spoke to them.
He did not hide, and whether fans agreed with him or not, that is a lot better than the attitude shown by Winks last week.
When a club is in crisis, supporters want honesty and accountability, and while Choudhury may not have had all the answers, simply facing the fans was more than what many others managed.
