Lincoln City have unveiled a new temporary stand for away supporters at Sincil Bank ahead of their return to the second tier.
The additional seating has been designed to increase the away allocation, but the structure has already attracted plenty of criticism from rival supporters online.
Lincoln City's temporary away stand hasn't gone down well
Lincoln City have added a temporary stand behind one of the goals at Sincil Bank, creating an additional 250 seats for visiting supporters during the 2026/27 Championship campaign.
The structure, which sits alongside the existing away section, is a relatively basic open-air stand with uncovered seating and a temporary appearance.
Its introduction comes as Lincoln prepare for life back in the second tier after winning promotion, having pledged to spend £10 million on upgrades, with the club needing to accommodate the increased demands of Championship football.
However, images of the new stand have prompted a mixed response on social media, with some fans questioning whether the ground is suitable for the second-tier of English football.
One supporter said the club “shouldn't have been allowed to go up if the ground's not fit for purpose”, while others described the structure as “tinpot” and said it looked “almost non-league”.
Another fan simply labelled the stand “horrendous”, while one suggested that Lincoln's former midfielder Ethan Erhahon's decision to leave the club could be understandable given the facilities.
The criticism comes despite the stand providing Lincoln with additional capacity specifically for visiting supporters, rather than replacing existing facilities.
Sincil Bank has undergone several changes over the years, but the latest addition certainly has a temporary feel to it as the Imps prepare for their first Championship campaign in more than a decade.
FGG says: Away fans should wrap up warm at Sincil Bank
Having experienced Gillingham's ‘temporary' away end that has been around for the past two decades, we know only too well what these structures can be like for visiting supporters.
Away fans heading to Sincil Bank during the winter months will certainly want to wrap up warm, because an uncovered temporary stand is unlikely to offer much protection from the elements.
Still, if it gets the Imps through their first Championship season, needs must.
