Match-going Manchester United fans were delivered a blow last week when it was revealed that the club were raising season ticket prices by five per cent in all areas of Old Trafford.

The decision to increase ticket prices for the fourth season in a row was a hammer blow for United fans, even if it was compounded by some marginal wins for them in relation to European away ticket collections.

This week, supporters were handed more breadcrumbs from the club with an announcement on food and drink discounts inside Old Trafford.

Food and drink discount extended at Old Trafford

Up until this month, Manchester United had been offering all ticket holders for matches at Old Trafford a 25% discount on food and drink if they turned up at least an hour before kick-off.

However, ahead of Sunday's clash with Aston Villa, which the Red Devils won 3-1, the club revealed that the offer has now been extended. From this week onwards, all match-going United fans will be able to claim a 25% discount on all food and drink inside Old Trafford up until 30 minutes before kick-off.

While this 25% discount may seem significant on the face of it, the prices inside Old Trafford are already marked up on what fans can expect to find in nearby pubs and shops. For reference, the price of a hot dog inside the ground, with the 25% discount applied, will cost £3.98. The average cost of a hot dog in the burger vans outside the ground is around £4.

In response to the shift in discount policy, the Manchester United Supporters' Trust (MUST) released the following statement on X.

“The club want fans to turn up earlier, so a fan suggested keeping the discount up to 30 minutes before KO at the Fans Forum meeting yesterday to encourage this. The club have agreed and implemented already. A small win, but perhaps part of a positive pattern recently.”

FGG says: Take what you can get

This deal, being offered by Manchester United, won't be enough to get most supporters into the ground earlier than they normally would, but it will have a positive impact on those who naturally arrive at the stadium with plenty of time to spare.
