Tensions around Marseille have reached boiling point again as supporters delivered a powerful visual statement during their latest Ligue 1 fixture.

Anger aimed at the club's board was made unmistakably clear before kick-off against Gary O'Neil's Strasbourg at the Stade Velodrome.

What did Marseille supporters do in the stands before Strasbourg match?

Marseille fans staged a coordinated protest in the stands this weekend, leaving large sections of the stadium empty as players emerged from the tunnel for kick-off.

This was largely in the Virage Nord stand, which is traditionally one of the more vocal areas of the Stade Velodrome, and instead of noise and colour, players were met with boos and whistles, underlining the sheer frustration among the fanbase.

Banners were also unveiled, aiming a message at the French outfit's board. It said: “Stands empty in protest. For a club self-destructing. All your projects go up in flames during these wasted years.”

These protests reflect growing discontent over Marseille's direction on the pitch in recent times. Despite regular talk of ambitious projects, many supporters feel progress has stalled, with instability behind the scenes continuing to undermine performances.

This is not the first time that the OM faithful have turned to stadium protests in recent seasons, but the scale and symbolism of leaving seats empty in the stadium sends a particularly strong message to the club's hierarchy.

Fans have shown patience through repeated rebuilds, managerial changes and inconsistent results, yet very little has actually changed.

If the board don't act on this soon, then the atmosphere around one of France's biggest and most vocal clubs will only continue to sour.
