Matthias Jaissle makes key St James’ Park request to Newcastle fans ahead of Bournemouth clash

Matthias Jaissle has called on Newcastle United supporters to produce the same energy at St James' Park when AFC Bournemouth visit on Saturday.

The Magpies boss admits a 12:45pm kick-off is unfamiliar territory for him, but he hopes the early start will not affect the famous atmosphere.

Jaissle is preparing for his first Premier League lunchtime kick-off, joking that he has not been involved in a game starting so early since his youth days with Stuttgart.

The German will be looking to maintain his unbeaten start to life at Newcastle after collecting four points from their opening matches against Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

A win over the Cherries could even temporarily take the Magpies to the top of the Premier League table for a few hours at least.

After experiencing the atmosphere inside St James' Park during the dramatic Liverpool game and then the Carabao Cup victory over West Bromwich Albion under the lights, Jaissle wants supporters to provide the same backing against Bournemouth.

“I really hope the fans and all the supporters are cheering for us in the same way, like against Liverpool and in the cup,” he said in his pre-game press conference.

Jaissle also stressed that the Toon will stick to their approach regardless of the opposition, while remaining realistic about expectations following last season's 12th-place finish.

The 12:45pm start might not have the same feel as a night game under the lights, but the Magpies' faithful have repeatedly shown that they can create an atmosphere whenever the team needs them.

Jaissle clearly understands how important that backing can be, particularly with such a young squad still developing under his management.

If the players can produce another strong performance and the stands match the energy of the Liverpool and West Brom games, St James' Park could once again give Newcastle a significant advantage.
