New Coventry City transport link launched ahead of Premier League curtain-raiser at the CBS Arena

Coventry City fans are set to benefit from a new direct bus link between Coventry Railway Station and the Coventry Building Society Arena this season.

The service will launch ahead of the Sky Blues' first Premier League home game in 25 years, while also supporting the venue's growing events calendar.

The extended number 20 bus service will begin running on Saturday 29th August when Coventry host their first home Premier League fixture against fellow top-flight newcomers Hull City.

The route will now continue from Trinity Street in the city centre to Foleshill Road, stopping a short walk from the CBS Arena.

It will operate seven days a week until 11pm, making it easier for supporters travelling by train to reach the stadium and return to Coventry Railway Station after matches.

West Midlands Mayor Richard Parker told the BBC that the deal was agreed following a request from Coventry City Council and the football club, with additional football special buses also available on busy matchdays.

The extended service is also designed to support the CBS Arena's plans to host more concerts and events, with Parker saying the investment will make travelling to and from the venue “much easier and quicker” for thousands of visitors.

The new service should make matchdays considerably easier for supporters travelling into Coventry by train, particularly with the Sky Blues now back in the Premier League.

Running the route late into the evening is also a sensible move given the CBS Arena's growing schedule of football, concerts and other events.

After 25 years away, Coventry City are back in the top flight, and improvements like this can only help the club and stadium make the most of their return.
