In August 2025, Wrexham submitted revised proposals to Wrexham City Borough Council that outlined significant changes to their initial expansion plans for their new Kop Stand.
In the updated plans, there was a proposal for an additional 2,250 seats on the second tier of the Kop which would aim to further modernise the stadium and boost their chances of hosting international fixtures.
Once the initial plans have been followed through, the Kop's capacity will rise to 7,750 which will increase the overall capacity of the Racecourse Ground to 18,000 seats.
As per The Leader, construction work is well underway at Wrexham's home ground, with heavy machinery and site workers already in operation as the long-awaited rebuild takes shape.
Fresh look at Kop construction fuels renewed push for historic stand name
Drone footage posted on YouTube by Wrexham AFC Fanzone has given fans a clear look at the long-awaited Kop Stand. While construction is still in its early stages, the video shows clear progress and will provide a welcome boost for supporters.
This visible progress comes after nearly two years of revisions and planning setbacks, but the renewed momentum has also reignited a passionate debate among supporters over what the stand should be called.
While commercial naming rights – potentially tied to ventures such as Four Walls Whiskey or Aviation Gin – offer significant financial appeal, many fans favour a name rooted in heritage.
Tributes to club legend Joey Jones, terrace icon Giacomo “Jacco” Ian Roberts, or even the Gresford Miners have all gained emotional support, reflecting a community eager for the new Kop to honour Wrexham’s deeper story.
McLaren Construction Midlands and North in charge of project
The Leader reported that Wrexham had appointed McLaren Construction Midlands and North to lead the vital redevelopment work.
The appointment forms part of a Pre-Construction Services Agreement (PCSA), signalling the start of the club’s long-term redevelopment vision.
Under the agreement, McLaren Construction will oversee final design development, manage subcontractor tendering, and refine both the construction schedule and overall delivery strategy for the project.

Wrexham set completion date for new Kop stand project
The full redevelopment programme is expected to be completed during the 2026/27 season, restoring the Racecourse Ground to a full four-sided arena and advancing Wrexham AFC’s wider ambitions.
Club CEO Michael Williamson described the new Kop as the centrepiece of Wrexham’s transformation, saying it will boost capacity, improve fan experience, and strengthen the club’s connection to the local community.
He added that the project forms a vital part of the Gateway Partnership regeneration plans, positioning the stadium as a proud symbol of both sporting and civic progress.
FGG Says: A long time coming
It feels like a lifetime ago that Wrexham announced that they were planning on renovating the Kop at one end of the Racecourse Ground, so it is great to see that the ball is now rolling in terms of construction. Yes, the completion date has been pushed back slightly, but with Wrexham now performing well in the Championship, there is still a chance that the stand could officially open with the Dragons as a Premier League club.
