New Wrexham drone footage shows “huge step forward” in Racecourse Ground expansion

Fresh drone footage from the Racecourse Ground has given Wrexham supporters their clearest indication yet that the club’s ambitious Kop Stand redevelopment is entering a major new phase.

The latest aerial update, published by the Wrexham AFC Fanzone YouTube channel, showed substantial progress on the steel framework of the new stand, with stair sections now being installed and concrete pours taking place across the site as construction accelerates ahead of the 2026-27 season.

The footage described the latest developments as a “huge step forward”, with the stand now visibly beginning to take shape after months of groundwork and foundation work behind the goal at the SToK Cae Ras.

One of the most significant revelations from the update was confirmation that Wrexham are constructing the stand for the proposed larger 7,750-capacity design rather than the currently approved 5,500-seat version.

According to the video commentary, the club are proceeding with the larger-scale build because they are confident additional planning permission will eventually be granted, despite ongoing discussions surrounding parking arrangements and phosphate mitigation measures.

The footage also highlighted new stair installations being secured into place with concrete foundations, while steel erectors continued assembling major structural sections high above the site. Construction crews were shown working across multiple levels as the redevelopment increasingly transforms the stadium skyline.

Wrexham pressing ahead with long-term stadium vision

The Kop redevelopment represents one of the biggest infrastructure projects in Wrexham’s modern history and is central to the club’s long-term ambitions under owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Once completed, the stand is expected to restore the Racecourse Ground to a four-sided stadium configuration while increasing overall capacity to more than 18,000. The project is also designed to bring the venue up to UEFA Category 4 standards.

Recent reports have estimated the overall redevelopment could cost close to £70m, with the project forming part of a wider regeneration strategy around the stadium and surrounding area.

The stand itself has been designed by Populous, the architecture firm behind Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and will eventually feature hospitality areas, media facilities, safe standing sections and enhanced supporter amenities.
