Newcastle United have revealed that a number of improvements have been made to St James' Park ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Magpies kicked off their Premier League campaign with a X-X against Liverpool on Sunday and outlined the upgrades ahead of the match.

Newcastle make major investment

In a statement, the club revealed that they had invested £10 million into improving hospitality, including fully refurbishing the Chairman's Suite and The Magpie.

£3.6m has been spent on installing a completely new pitch, which is the first time the playing surface has been replaced in 21 years.

The PA system has also been upgraded, while a new £2m floodlighting system and four new replay screens have been installed.

The stadium's capacity has also been increased to 52,719 thanks to the expansion of Newcastle's safe standing areas.

“We're delighted to welcome you back home for the return of Premier League action this weekend, following a busy summer of improvements across St. James' Park,” Newcastle said of the works.

“Guided by valuable supporter feedback gathered at previous home matches, these improvements have been designed to improve your matchday experience.

“From stadium infrastructure and supporter facilities to hospitality and connectivity, these investments reflect our continued commitment to enhancing the experience at St. James' Park.”

The news comes after it emerged that Newcastle are aiming to begin work on a new stadium by 2030.

FGG Says: Much-needed improvements

Although building a brand new ground is the long-term aim for Newcastle's owners, it is great to see that they remain committed to improving the matchday experience at St James' Park.

The stadium is one of the most historic and beloved grounds in England and is always well worth a visit.
