Newcastle United's owners, led by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia, are reportedly looking at ‘alternative' sites for a potential brand-new stadium.

The Magpies have been weighing up the future of their home since 2024, with the two initial options being to redevelop the iconic St James' Park or to construct a new stadium at the nearby Leazes Park site.

However, any plans for a new ground at the Leazes Park site have reportedly been disrupted by a new development, leading to PIF investigating alternative locations for their potential new home stadium.

Newcastle identify alternative sites for new home stadium

Newcastle United have supposedly identified sites at Hunters Moor (north of Leazes Park) or the nearby Nuns Moor Park for their new ground.

There are also reports that North East mayor Kim McGuinness is keen for investment to be made in the Arthur's Hill area, which is located just a mile away from Newcastle's St James' Park, providing another potential option for the club.

The club have been forced to search for alternative sites following the discovery of bats at the Leazes Park site, which has been seen as an ideal location for a brand-new stadium to be constructed.

As it can be a criminal offence to deliberately capture, injure, disturb or kill a bat, while it is a criminal offence to damage or destroy the breeding or resting site of a bat, the club have been faced with a unique challenge.

However, alongside searching for sites elsewhere, the club are supposedly taking action to explore potential relocation strategies in line with legal protections for bats, which would allow them to continue making progress on a new home at Leazes Park, which remains their preferred site.

FGG Says: Fans made to wait

Fans have been waiting since 2024 to find out whether the club will opt to redevelop St James' Park or relocate and construct a new stadium, and they will likely have to wait even longer following the recent developments.
