It's the latest milestone in the club's remarkable rise under owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

European football is set to return to the Racecourse Ground

European football returns to the Racecourse on Wednesday night when Wrexham Women face Armenian outfit Pyunik in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Women's Champions League.

The fixture marks the women's team's first-ever European match after lifting the Genero Adran Premier title for the first time last season, earning a place on the continental stage.

Speaking to the BBC, head coach Jenny Sugarman revealed co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are “incredibly excited” ahead of the occasion, with Mac remaining closely involved behind the scenes to ensure the squad has everything it needs.

Since taking over Wrexham in 2021, the Hollywood duo pledged to invest in the women's programme alongside the men's team, with that commitment helping transform the side from semi-professional football to Welsh champions and European qualifiers.

Victory over Pyunik would set up a final against either Glentoran or Riga FC later this week, again at the Racecourse Ground.

The occasion also revives the club's proud European heritage.

While Wrexham's men's side famously faced clubs including Anderlecht, Porto, Roma and Manchester United in European competition, they are no longer eligible to represent Wales, leaving the women's team to carry the club's continental ambitions into a new era.
