A trip to the Etihad Stadium does not have to begin and end with Manchester City, with the surrounding area and wider city offering plenty to see and do.

Whether you're arriving early for a match, making a weekend of your visit or travelling with the family, there are attractions within easy reach of the stadium to suit all interests.

From live music and football history to museums and family-friendly activities, Manchester has plenty to keep fans occupied away from the pitch.

FootballGroundGuide takes a look at seven of the best things to do near the Etihad Stadium in 2026.

1. Catch a show at Co-op Live

You don't have to travel far from the Etihad to find one of Manchester's newest major attractions.

Co-op Live sits directly across from the stadium and is a state-of-the-art indoor arena that has quickly established itself as one of the city's biggest entertainment venues.

The arena has already welcomed major artists including Liam Gallagher and Sabrina Carpenter, with a packed calendar of concerts and events making it worth checking what's on during your visit.

Location: 1 Sportcity Way, Manchester, M11 3DU.

2. Visit Manchester Cathedral

Football fans wanting to explore Manchester's history should make time for Manchester Cathedral, located just over three miles from the Etihad.

The magnificent building has more than 600 years of history, with highlights including the beautifully carved entrance arch of the Lady Chapel and the famous Minstrel Angels in the Nave.

It is an excellent option if you have several hours to spare before or after a City fixture and want to experience one of Manchester's most important historic landmarks.

Location: Victoria Street, Manchester, M3 1SX.

3. Explore Manchester Museum

The Manchester Museum provides an opportunity to escape the football for a few hours and discover an extensive collection covering natural history, archaeology and world cultures.

Among the highlights are the Golden Mummies of Egypt exhibition, featuring eight mummies and more than 100 ancient Egyptian artefacts, while the Vivarium allows visitors to see live reptiles and amphibians.

It is particularly well suited to families and makes an excellent rainy-day activity during a football weekend.

Location: Oxford Road, Manchester, M13 9PL.

4. Discover the Greater Manchester Police Museum

For something a little different, head to the Greater Manchester Police Museum, around a couple of miles from the Etihad.

The museum occupies an original 1892 police station and allows visitors to explore the old cells and offices, alongside the former 1895 Magistrates Court.

Displays include historic police vehicles, evidence and equipment, offering a fascinating glimpse into Manchester's policing history.

Location: 57A Newton Street, Manchester, M1 1ET.

5. Visit the National Football Museum

Football fans visiting Manchester should find time for the National Football Museum, particularly if the weather isn't cooperating.

The museum houses an enormous collection of football memorabilia, including the original Laws of the Game document and the oldest surviving FA Cup trophy.

Visitors can also test their skills in interactive challenges, explore temporary exhibitions and browse the museum shop.

It is a natural addition to any Manchester football trip and can easily fill a few hours before or after heading to the Etihad.

Location: Todd Street, Manchester, M4 3BG.

6. Try Archery Tag at The Archertype

Looking for something competitive to do with friends? The Archertype offers Archery Tag, a combination of archery and dodgeball that is ideal for groups.

All equipment and instructions are provided, while sessions typically last between one and two hours, making it relatively easy to fit around matchday plans.

Best of all, the activity takes place indoors, so Manchester's notoriously unpredictable weather doesn't have to ruin your plans.

Location: 37-49 Devonshire Street North, Manchester, M12 6JR.

7. Spend a day at LEGOLAND Manchester

Families travelling to Manchester for a City game have another excellent option at LEGOLAND Manchester.

Located inside Trafford Palazzo at TraffordCity, the indoor attraction is primarily aimed at children aged three to 10 and combines rides, interactive play areas, LEGO builds and a 4D cinema.

It provides enough entertainment for a half-day visit and is particularly useful when travelling with younger children who may not want to spend the entire weekend focused on football.

Location: Barton Square, Phoenix Way, The Trafford Centre, Manchester.
