Turf Moor's history and stadium records

Turf Moor has been Burnley's home since 1883, with the club moving there shortly after its formation. Burnley were subsequently among the founding members of the Football League in 1888.

The ground has undergone numerous renovations, with the South Stand dating back to 1913, the Bob Lord Stand being redeveloped during the 1970s and the James Hargreaves Stand opening in 1996.

The Jimmy McIlroy Stand also underwent significant redevelopment during the 1990s.

Turf Moor's four stands are named after prominent figures and areas associated with the club: the James Hargreaves Stand, Jimmy McIlroy Stand, Bob Lord Stand and Cricket Field Stand.

The stadium also installed permanent floodlights in 1957, allowing evening football to become part of its matchday offering.

Burnley subsequently hosted European competition matches, including fixtures during their 1960/61 European Cup campaign.
