Como have officially launched the major redevelopment of the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia to bring the historic stadium up to UEFA standards.

The club will compete in the Europa League in 2026/27 after securing a fifth-placed finish in the Serie A this season, marking Como's first-ever appearance in European competition.

Como's home, the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia, does not currently meet UEFA requirements, so major redevelopment plans have started to bring the ground up to standard, starting with the demolition of the legendary Curva Como.

Curva Como demolition underway

Renovation works at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia have entered a decisive phase, with the club beginning the complete demolition of the stand behind the goal.

Demolition work got underway less than 24 hours after Como's final match of the 2025/26 Serie A season, with heavy machinery already removing most of the old stand.

The current Curva Como, which traditionally houses the club's most passionate supporters, is built from tubular steel structures but will be replaced by a prefabricated reinforced-concrete stand.

This change will allow the stand's capacity to increase from 3,960 seats to 4,255 seats, with the overall stadium capacity for Serie A matches increasing from 12,064 seats to 12,379 seats.

The new Curva Como stand will feature a modern, rectangular design, although this has already sparked debate among Como supporters.

Other improvements will include new toilets, storage areas, food and beverage outlets, a club shop and spaces dedicated to logistics and event operations on the ground floor of the structure.

Como have been forced into making these major redevelopments to meet UEFA's stadium licensing requirements for international competitions, with the governing body requiring at least 8,000 seats installed in permanent concrete structures.

Therefore, the redevelopment of the current steel-based Curva Como into a new reinforced-concrete stand will bring the stadium up to standard, ensuring the club can play their first-ever European matches at their home ground.

FGG Says: Stadium improvements match club's upwards trajectory

Como have enjoyed a stellar few seasons in recent years, climbing from Serie B to Serie A and then securing their first-ever appearance in European competition, with the club set to appear in the Europa League in 2026/27.

These major improvements to the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia match the club's upwards trajectory, and while some supporters may not be pleased with the planned changes, they are needed for the club to continue progressing.
