What Brentford fans chanted at Jordan Henderson during emphatic Chelsea victory

Jordan Henderson's first game back at the Gtech Community Stadium could hardly have gone much worse, with his new Chelsea side thrashed 3-0 by his former club as the two teams met on Friday night in the opening fixture of matchday five.

The encounter marked the veteran midfielder's first outing for Xabi Alonso's team since completing a free transfer to Stamford Bridge over the summer after one season with the Bees.

Given that he joined another West London club rather than moving away from the capital altogether, a mixed reception from the home supporters was hardly surprising.

Friday's visit to the Gtech made for an uncomfortable evening for a player who, by all accounts, left Brentford on good terms only a few months earlier.

Brentford had planned to reassess Henderson's future after the 2026 World Cup, but when the midfielder made it clear that he wanted a fresh challenge, the club agreed to mutually terminate his contract.

Director of football Phil Giles said Brentford had always told Henderson that they would not stand in his way should he decide to pursue a different challenge.

However, none of that history stopped the home supporters from making the most of his return, particularly once their side started to take control of the game.

The Bees fans did not hold back in the second half, chanting “Jordan, what’s the score? Jordan, Jordan, what’s the score?”, according to BBC Sport Live, as Brentford turned what had initially been a tight contest into a comfortable victory.

Henderson, freshly back from a broken wrist suffered on international duty, was named in Alonso's starting XI but could do little to stem the tide once Brentford found their rhythm after the goalless first half.

Second-half goals from Jaidon Anthony and Igor Thiago put the game beyond Chelsea before Fabio Carvalho added a third deep into stoppage time, making it a night to forget for Henderson and his new side.

Returning to a former club can be an uncomfortable experience, and Henderson found that out the hard way on Friday. Chelsea will hope this proves to be an isolated result, but three consecutive league games without a win mean there are already some questions for Alonso's side to answer.
