With the 2026 World Cup now fully underway, many fans have noticed something strange when looking at the fixture list.

AT&T Stadium, one of the most recognisable sporting venues in the United States, is nowhere to be found on the official schedule.

Instead, the ground hosting several major fixtures, including England’s opening Group L match against Croatia on June 17th, appears as Dallas Stadium instead.

For a venue famous for NFL games, boxing mega‑events and record‑breaking crowds, the sudden change has naturally raised eyebrows among supporters.

Why is AT&T Stadium now called Dallas Stadium?

The reason comes down to FIFA’s ‘clean stadium' rules for all World Cup venues.

Throughout the tournament, stadiums must use neutral, non‑commercial names, regardless of their usual branding or sponsorship arrangements. The policy is designed to avoid conflicts with FIFA’s global partners and to ensure a consistent naming format across all host cities.

Because ‘AT&T Stadium' is tied to a major corporate naming‑rights agreement, FIFA cannot use it in any official tournament materials.

Instead, the venue is temporarily labelled ‘Dallas Stadium', a simple geographic identifier that fits the organisation’s guidelines.

This temporary name will appear across all official channels. including match schedules, broadcast graphics, ticketing, accreditation and any other FIFA communications. The same rule applies to every stadium with a commercial naming partner at the 2026 World Cup.

Is the name change permanent?

No. This switch is only for the duration of the tournament.

‘Dallas Stadium' is a FIFA‑specific designation that exists solely within the World Cup’s official ecosystem.

Outside of the event, the venue is likely to continue to be known universally as AT&T Stadium, and local fans, broadcasters and media outlets are expected to keep using the original name throughout the competition.

The only place most supporters will encounter the temporary title is on FIFA’s graphics and documentation.

FGG says: It is still the Dallas Cowboys' impressive home

Whatever label appears on FIFA’s official materials, the stadium itself is unchanged.

The home of the Dallas Cowboys remains one of the most striking venues in global sport – a colossal, high‑tech arena with space for more than 90,000 fans, a fully retractable roof and a giant centre‑hung video board that dominates the interior.

For the 2026 World Cup, it becomes the backdrop for England’s opening Group L match, a series of group fixtures and a major knockout tie, placing North Texas firmly in the spotlight.

While FIFA may refer to it as Dallas Stadium, it will always be known as AT&T Stadium.
